Totally agree, as I said pinch o' salt. I've seen films I loved get terrible reviews and vice versa - most of QT's back catalogue for example.

I only watch to see what films are coming out soon and I quite fancy Winkelman.

I read the reviews after the films if possible, often find I like a film only to read after that it was panned by critics and the other way round, really bad films that get good reviews. I don't like most film critics either, that Kermode guy I find a bit odd so wouldn't go by anything he had to say, think he said he didn't watch TV for 20 years or something so how can he judge films if he's like that

Tarantino is only there to promote his film. He didn't 'owe' channel 4 anything that won't help his film out.

I thought he was spot on.

Yeah, I tend to read reviews after I have seen the film. I think that they generally spoil the experience if you read about it before.

I often watch Kermode's reviews, they can be quite entertaining, though I disagree with him sometimes. e.g. Jack Reacher didn't get a great review from him, but I thought it was a pretty good film.

Rotten Tomatoes is only a rough guide. If it has 50% or lower, it probably isn't going to be very good - but there are exceptions.

Yeah, because I havent got a closed mind. It wouldnt be much of a person who saw 1 example of someone's work and then said "No, Im not watching any more. They're all ****e". I kept watching because people continuously me they were good and I listed all the films of his that Ive seen earlier in the thread. In fact, you've helped me here because someone else suggested I was commenting from ignorance of not watching them. Thanks!

And I never said they were 'all ****e' I dont think. Or did I? I seem to recall saying I didnt enjoy any of them and they were overrated. I cant be bothered to look....

Guru-Murthy is always a twat. A moist, furry, cavernous, fishy twat in fact.

Yep. Plus he's a failed actor who slimed into news reading. He's obviously going to have a go at a great director cos he didnt make it as an actor.

Seconded. Did he also present an appalling game show as well? Or was that just a nightmare I had?

He's also in a rock band apparently.

I really can't imagine him in a rock band.

I've seen the film and its a typical Tarrantino gore fest, does he make any other type of film? No they are all like it so why would an interview focus on it instead of the story which is very good.

Another of his films, The Man with the Iron Fists, is pretty terrible and is only about how many different ways someone can be killed.

I would never refer to any Tarantino film as a gore fest, (OK Kill Bill vol 1 maybe goes a bit OTT). Sure they're violent but they always have intriguing or complex themes running through them and I can fully understand why he gets so pissed off when all any interviewer focuses on is the violence aspect.

Unless you're thinking of Hostel which isn't really a QT film anyway, (and for the record I thought was absolutely dreadful). Can't wait to see Django

Actually, that's exactly what you said.

You said it was a case of 'Emperor's New Clothes', suggesting that anyone who liked it, didn't have a mind of their own.

Which is precisely why I said the comment was ****e.

Going to a cinema or watching videos/DVDs? I don't think he needs to watch X-Factor or Strictly to be able to review a film.

And mission accomplished. How many more people will have realised that he's got a new film coming out purely because they've heard about him having a paddy on the news?

And although there's the level of violence as a constant theme there are different styles to his films as well. Although I think Kevin Smith has probably got the biggest variation when you look at Mallrats/Chasing Amy/Red State/Cop Out and the fact his next (and last) film is going to be a hockey based one (a bit like Goon was) they're completely different, and he's only made another couple of films on top of that list.
