Just having my first pint in the refurbished Botanic pub on Spring Bank/Derringham Street corner. It's the Black and Amber Bar renewed - and is really friendly. Decor good - all welcome - pre and post match drinkies and footy games on telly. There's even a bit for the egg chasers.
Always the quiet place to go, when you needed to get out of the PB for a spot of serious, uninterrupted confab.
Have been in before matches but its a bit cramped and like Parkers doubles up as an eggchasing venue. It would be great if someone would do something much bigger on a sole Hull City theme - venue which could become the focal point for supporters all year round, or is the pub trade in such a precarious position that this is no longer viable?
Impossible, because the pub would suffer the same 'Plastics' malaise as the KC! Do you like that one, ISTPLT?
You mean they'd stop going of the beer was ****, or if the main bar staff were away on holiday for a week and the manager was putting the others on the busy shifts that week?
You got it in one - all refurbed pubs have a honeymoon period when they reopen and all the good-time charlies (as in Glory-Hunters) fade away to the next refurb after a while - see, I did understand what you were saying!
It's to be hoped they last longer than the previous people running it. They took about 3months to paint it and then can't have been open more than 3 days can they? What a peculiar business plan.
Nah, never was and definitely not for the last few years after Tigers Co-operative sold it. In fact, it's now just called 'the Lair' the tigers bit was dropped a few years back.
Has Hull ever really had a Hull City pub ? Walls covered with old pictures and memorabilia type thing ?
Did it turn out it was luminous railway paint? Or did the brewery find out the manager had done a profit sharing deal for the decorating?
