Yawn, is that it? Is that draw the reason you've come to the conclusion that there's "no-one better out there, only more consistent"?

Behave mate, you've only beaten teams in the lower reaches of the table this season & there's a reason for that & it aint the FA, referees, Fergie or the medias doing..........

only having one fit striker hasn't helped.

don't know what impact Sturridge will have yet or who else we bring in, but no reason why we can not go on a run 2nd half of season, although i appreciate up until now we have been inconsistent, has that changed? guess time will tell.

its unlikely we will get 4th but you are making out like we have no chance, which is botox.

  3. We aren't in the battle, nor will we be with the current squad IMO <ok>

Surely you have to consider more than us and Spurs too? I think most of us would agree that the top three will be Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City but what about Arsenal and Everton? IMO both have better teams than us AND Spurs! I'm not including WBA because they will drop away.

I know having only one striker hasn't helped, that's a fact, but who's fault's that?

Sturridge is a good signing & he'll notch a few for sure, so you may well improve in the 2nd half of the season.

It's only my opinion that you've got no chance, but it's an opinion that's based on knowing the game & watching a lot of football.

Recent history tells us that the team in 4th is going to need to get between 68 & 72 points, so you'd need a minimum of 37 points from 17 games to get there. That's an average of over 2 points per game. I will wager with anyone on here, that you won't achieve over 2 points per game for the remainder of the season.

The return of Borini & the signing of Sturridge will help us massively. It'll give us more potential goalscorers on the pitch plus it'll allow Sterling to get rested once in a while and keep him fresh for the games he does play, rather than him playing in all the games but being tired in most of them.

simply put we need to win the next ten games to have any chance and that ssimply not going to happen. we need to bridge a huge gap with few enough games left... reality check guys.. its going to require 3 teams to blow up.

lets be real.. we travel i nthe next games to utd, city and arsenal and cna only hope for 3 points from norwich at home (who are doing well.) out of those 12 points we could get very little or maybe 6 points so i can only see us dropping further back but after those games the games get a bit easier so we could finish strongly.... but reality is after these next games there are not enough to catch up.

in effect you guys want spurs and everton to have relegation from while we have championship form for at least 5 games to catch up.

If we run 9/12 points i'll be happy. 5th/6th would be good..... then go buy some more players in the summer to make us a hard working, and hard to beat side with goals in it.

thankfully we're not like newcastle and in dange rof relegation after a good previous year.... we're ok.

We got 33 from 17 when Dalglish came back with a squad that was not as strong in quality as our current one. 37 from 17 not impossible at all. Just that I suspect we'd need more than that to be in contention.

So, Everton have had, for them, a good run of results. Well season's stats over the last 10 years prove that they are not consistent and the odds are that they will start on a poor run. I agree with Gerrez in relation to WBA. Spurs too have weaknesses. As for Arsenal, they have proved themselves to be vulnerable - even at home - as have Chelsea.

Therefore the future does lie in our own hands. Without a second striker and without Lucas we have reached our present position whilst still lacking consistency. IF, and I will accept that it is a big IF, we can increase our consistency then we have nothing to fear from those teams above us.

    Not consistent?

We've lost 3 out of our last 30 league games.

The simple facts are, that Spurs, Arsenal & Everton are all currently better than you, hence the league table.

It doesn't lie in your own hands at all, it lies currently in the hands of Spurs, it remains to be seen if they can keep hold of it. But even if they slip up there'll be teams ahead of you in queue to collect it.

Regrettably I think Boots is right, we will need the sort of form over the next few months, that a team finishing SECOND needs throughout the season.Possible, but very, very, very, very unlikely

Not likely for me to be honest. Whilst you should be up there challenging for fourth, the reality is that Arsenal, Everton and Spurs look more likely to be in there. I think Liverpool should take stock for a couple of seasons, carry on developing good young players like Sterling and Shelvey and work your way back into contention.

Given we've once won back to back games this season there is nothing to suggest we'll be fighting for 4th place regardless of good performances when we lose;)

I cant see us getting the top four this season, United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal will be top four imo but if we can keep improving this season and sign a few in the summer we will have a much better chance next season, the league is not great any more so we dont even need to improve that much to get top four.

While I agree about this season, I think you're way off with a few seasons.

I think w can challenge for 4th next year, I think we are improving while Arsenal are not really mate, your lot have hit an uphill stretch. Spurs are doing well but it's half way at this point this year and they could fall yet, too early to say. Chelsea have lost their last two home games, who knows where they'll end up. I have no confidence that any teams above us, City United apart, can keep up their form as they've all had blips second half of the season for the past few seasons. There is a lack of consistency in all but two sides this year although Spurs are doing well you gotta admit

I said challenge for 4th next season because that will definitely be the target for us Arsenal Spurs Chelsea Liverpool. Who knows how the second tier will perform for the 2nd half, never mind next season<ok>

Now I could lie and say that I don't mean to cause offence but I won't. Are you actually incapable of reading? Look again at what I said regarding the Blueshite.

As you claim to watch so much football then you should understand that a team's fate is certainly in its own hands. The second half of the season has only just started what happened before is history.

    Nah... not this year.

What we need is progression up the table again, but 4th is really a step too far.

Annoyingly we dropped points badly early on, and through bad refereeing, that are costing us now - think Sunderland away, United at home, Everton away. That's 7 points dropped.

  20. True but in the same way that 51 from 17 isn't impossible. Very unlikely but isn't impossible <ok>
