I've been looking at the fixtures, and although I'm sure i say this every year and I'm usually disappointed, I think LFC have a shot at 4th place. Many have already written us off this season and maybe realistically so as we are trailing 4th by some 7 points. Also many have pointed to our tough run of games coming up. However I don't believe this is quite the full story, our form has been steadily improving with players like downing, Henderson and Allen all coming into good form. We also have signed sturridge and have Borini back giving us three options up front instead of one. The team are more used to the Rodgers style and he has more knowledge of the players abilities and limitations. All we need is to stay in touch with 4th over the next few games, then if we can hit some form on our easier run in catching 4th is not so unlikely. Spurs who look most likely to take 4th have one of the hardest run of 8 games from feb that ive ever seen, which includes 4 London derby's and 6 of the top 10 teams, In contrast liverpool only play 3 of the top 10 all at home. spurs lfc westham(A) Swansea(H) Arsenal(H) Wigan(A) Liverpool(A) Spurs(H) Fulham(H) Soton(A) Swansea(A) Villa(A) Everton(H) Westham(H) Chelsea(A) Reading(A) Man City(H) Chelsea(H) We definitely have a chance to catch them, on current form Its unlikely but if we can get some consistency for the run in then the fixtures are in our favor. I know many of us have already written off LFC's chances but i will remain hopeful untill the end of these game's. It my be blind hope and LFC have let me down many times in the past but i really think a CL spot may kick start us on the road back to a tittle challenge. Lastly there's something about BR's face that just looks like it would be great on a statue! lol
well to me we have seen that we did badly at the start and picked up big time v lesser teams in the latter part of the firs thalf of the season. we now have a terrible set of games i nthe next 5. after that it gets better but the reality is we are looking at huge catch up and it aint going to happen really. you said consistency and its just that... i can't see the run of form required happening. 6th is the best we are looking at on current form so sturridge needs to be amazing for us.
I don't think Everton will go away, not this year. I think it is more them and spurs to be honest. IF, IF we hit some consistency then yes, but we still haven't been able to show that. For every good win, there is an Aston Villa or Stoke right around the corner it seems when it comes to LFC>
Our next 8 league games look like a very good set of fixtures to build on running into the last stage of the season. Swansea H Southampton A West Brom H Aston Villa H Man U A Norwich A Reading H Arsenal A A good chance to rack up a number of points before we play the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, City and You in the run in.
Without sounding like a wum, you will struggle with some of those games Bold = Liverpool loss Italic = draw Swansea H Southampton A West Brom H Aston Villa H Man U A Norwich A Reading H Arsenal A
i think most of us think we will struggle anyway, but think the op point is if we are still with in touching distance after our run of hard games then why not. trouble is we are inconsistent, too early to say if we have overcome that ,but unless Borini and Sturridge start chipping in with goals a plenty we are relying on Luis as usual. its not impossible to get 4th but very unlikely.
It is a long shot but we have a small chance if we can string a load of wins together and beat our rivals for that spot. It's not looking good for us but you never know. It was 2nd a couple of weeks ago.
Possible but unlikely To get 4th we need at least once in the season to go on a run where we win 5/6 straight on the spin.We have done that in the past under Rafa, but not with this group of players and at the moment it doesnt look as if they have that got sort of run in them.On paper though we have the players capable of producing that sort of run, with Luis,Lucas,Dagger,Jonno,Pepe,Stevie those are top players who should be capable of putting a 6 win streak, theyve just gotta do it
Spot on this. We've won 5 out of the last 7 league games but they've been against the league's poorer teams and even the ones we lost we should've won. If we can get a run of straight wins going then we will be in with a shout but I fear we'll be too far away at the end of these 5 games to be in with a shout even if we go on an awesome end of season run. We'd have to defy recent history to get a win at Old Trafford or at the Emirates. We've won once in our last 9 visits to Old Trafford or something crazy like that while we've only beaten Arsenal once in our last 11 league meetings (home and away). Seems unlikely that we'll still be in with a shout at the end of these games. That said, stranger things have happened
Not a chance imo. 3 out of your next 4 games are, United, City & Arsenal away. For you to stand a chance of 4th you'll have to take points from all of those 3 & I can't see it.
So you already know what Spurs/Arsenal/Everton and Chelsea's results are going to be do you? If you don't then your comment is highly inaccurate. 4th is a good target for us to pursue as there's nobody better out there (those above us have been more consistent.
There's no one better out there? What? You've not beaten any side from the top half of the table in the league this season, so how can you come out with that? My opinion is that you're currently not good enough to challenge for 4th & that after the next 5 games that reality will have dawned on even the most optimistic red.
We've been unlucky not to beat around half of the teams not in the top half. Two legitimate goals chalked off against Swansea & Everton, a poor individual error cost us the 3 points against Man City and the red card + dodgy penalty against Man Utd ultimately cost us the chance to get 3 points. Not as if we've been outclassed by all these teams and never looked like getting anything.
