Can we agree that all Saints supporters, despite some of their idiosyncrasies. are OK, anyone that doesn't support the Saints are infidels. that need converting to the faith?
I've been to 15 homes games this season and 2 away, rochdale and colchester so does that make me a crap fan because i didn't go to every game? I drove to both colchester and rochdale and in the case of rochdale got stuck in traffic because of an accident and ended up being 3 hours over schedule,i also payed for a hotel up there as i didn't wanna drive all that way again on the same day,is that not a good fan? I think people get wound up too easily over season ticket issues,i'm sure almost every saints fan would have a season ticket if they could but issues stop them from doing so i.e money, committments, working so why don't people get off there high horse and realise that we all love saints but we all show it in different ways. When i can't get to matches i'm always listening to radio solent and soccer saturday as i love that part of the game too.Must say though that i am hopefully getting a season ticket next season so i'm happy! Good luck to everyone else whatever you do!
You may have guessed from my name that I live in Cardiff so getting to games is not an easy ask. I have no Southampton supporting friends so only tend to attend games where we are playing teams my friends support. For the last season that was none. Next season i will probably be attending matches against Leeds, Cardiff and Swansea (if the last two don't go up), does this mean I will be abused when I go?? Even if I wasn't bothered about travelling and turning up my myself I have other things i need to do at the weekend, attend birthdays, go shopping, visit family and work engagements. Since a trip to St Marys takes up most of my Saturday it's a commitment i sometimes can't make. So the people who say the chants etc aren't aimed at me and people like me, just glory hunters etc. I say the chants don't specify that. It sounds like you're having a go at anyone who doesn't attend all the time, and making them feel unwelcome. And like has been said before this may discourage potential regular supporters. It sounds like the people chanting aren't thinking it though, and I don't think stupidity can be all of their excuse. There must be some intelligence in those areas of the terraces, and to those people I say spread the word, explain the potential circumstances, create pop up books if you have to.
Back in those days Saints tickets were like gold dust. Through most of my teenage years I had a ST at The Dell, and my schoolfriends were insanely jealous. Made lots of cash off them with Cup tickets.
My Son and i never missed a home game all season, cups and all plus six away games so we spent more on home fixtures than season ticket holders so WE must be better fans, i know a nurse who does nothing but fkin go on about me not having a season ticket. ST holders are just people who dont have anything else to worry about spending they're money on thats all.
This is bollocks sorry I have plent of other things to spend my money on but make sure i find the cash because i know over the season it will save me money Does not make me any less or greater fan than any other in the stadium or at home listening This argument is just pathetic now we need to get over it. We are all fans no matter what If someone tells me they follow saints, they are as equaly to me! COYRs!!!!
Nashy Mate...calm down a bit...........I think you'll find what he was saying was a little tongue in cheek......Perhaps a little sarcastic dig at those that really do think they are a cut above the rest of us. At least that is the way I read it..........
Bit touchy are'nt we Nashy, was being sarkie by saying ive spent more cause thats the way ST holders look at it. And if youve got plenty of cash and can budget good luck to you....
Its something to do with the water that we get in Hedge End, i think it makes us better fans aswell......wait for the comments
Actually it is a miss read like that, that actually causes most problems. They see it but do they actually read it. The saying "see the wood but for the trees" come to mind. Also they do not give themselves time to actually think, "is that bloke actually taking the micheal or am I missing something". Their mind has stayed in the playground mode and not quite gone out into the real world. We have all been there, done it and got loads of teeshirts and they ain't alone!!
Everyone has a first game they go to, and so what if its a against a Top team I work most weekends so i hardley ever go, but i do have lots stuff from the saints shop, current top (as does my little lad), and cant bear not to listen in to the matches
Right so what makes a good fan, is it 1. somebody who buys a season ticket but doesn't go very often, 2 Is it somebody who only goes to a few home games? 3. Somebody who goes to every game 4. The distance you travel for a game 5. The personal sacrifices you personally make to be a Saints fan? 6. How aggressive and violent you are to opposing fans (some people who think they are better fans)
Ha Ha! That's why I shouldn't send a post when I'm on a conference call. It doesn't make sense. Right so what makes a good fan, is it? 1. somebody who buys a season ticket but doesn't go very often, 2 Is it somebody who only goes to a few home games? 3. Somebody who goes to every game? 4. A person who has to travel a very long distance to see a game? 5. The personal sacrifices you personally make to be a Saints fan? 6. How aggressive and violent you are to opposing fans (some people actually think they are better fans for acting like this) In reality does it really matter as long as your proud of your fellow fans and team
I consider every Saints fan, no matter the distance they travel, as a good fan because they support the greatest club in the world and share a passion I do. The ONLY people I call plastics are the ones, like I've already said, who ONLY go to the 'big games'. They're as bad as fans of the top 4 teams who never go. Having a season ticket or not makes no difference to how good a supporter you are. I know many fans who mainly go to away games due to their variety and atmosphere. Full credit to them.
All the above except No 6........The ones that think that are not football fans they are hooligans.........Should be sent to the hardest prison, come out with sore asses that lasts for rest of their life just to remind them of their stupidity........... In reality i suppose I do not really mean that....... but hey...... it is a thought..........!!
