Does anyone know what the deal is with the naming rights for our Stadium? I thought it was a five year deal but it is already seven years since that was signed.

When the sponsorship deal is up, let's just call it the 'Sir Michael Laudrup Stadium' :D

As its naming rights i would have thought it would be for either 10 or 25 years

surely with our profile at the moment - a good opportunity to sign a lucrative naming rights deal! More funds coming in!.......wonder if the board are picking their time?

There must have been a renewal that's gone unoticed, I can't believe we'd still be supporting the sponsors if they're not paying for it.
I just hope the renewal was worth a lot more than the 500k that the original deal was, if not Liberty are on a real winner to pay such a small amount for the coverage their name is getting at the moment

dont like changing names once one has been agreed on. Liberty stadium has to stay or we could end up with a name that will make us a laughing stock just like the toon was. They soon went back after fans around the world said the club lost its identity...

Thing is though Dai, it's a sponsorship. We can't keep calling it the Liberty stadium and give them free advertising just because we like their name. Most stadiums do it now and Newcastle were only ridiculed because of the history and tradition of their stadium, coupled with the fact that it was they're owners company providing the name, so it wasn't so much a sponsorship. It was more a case of advertising the fact that the stadium was available to be sponsored

I think that given we don't need the money (from a crisis perspective), we should give The Liberty Group the chance to renew and the name can carry on. I'm aware that lots of clubs now sell the name of their stadium, but I personally think it should be left well alone until it really needs to be done.

would you have liked the old vetch to lose its name...I wouldn't... The liberty is its name and what everyone knows it as. the minute you start changing it we lose our identity around the world....no need to change the name for anyone... sponsors can buy into the brand liberty and the success of the swans and not have us pandering to them....what about the ospreys anyway ...dont they have a say...Remember the stadium is not ours in the first place to determine who can and who cannot sponsor the stadium.....It will stay the liberty stadium...

I agree with Dai, it will always be 'The Liberty' for me. To be honest most people I speak to don't even realise it's a sponsor name.
We are not desperate for the cash so why worry about it. I guess we are not maximising profits by not getting a new sponsor but we are doing fine as is. I don't see it as essential. Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford, Anfield, White Hart Lane, Goodison Park to name a few who haven't gone down the name change sponsorsip road. Hell, how much could Man United expect to bring in by getting a sponsor but it will always be Old Trafford.
We should be thankful that it's such a neutral name anyway. Could have been the Lidl Stadium.

I have always been sorry that "White Rock" wasn't incorporated into the name even as the Liberty White Rock Stadium.
Mind you, with all that grey looking concrete inside, it would have seemed like a contradiction. I wonder if the club will do something about that when we get the extension.

Well if we go down the road that we don't care about the money of the sponsorship, why not call it the 'Allchurch' stadium or the 'New Vetch' or 'New Morfa or something? Maybe the 'White Rock' as it was to be before Liberty came in. I really don't understand the sentiment of a sponsor name just because it was our first stadium sponsor.
I wouldn't have liked the Vetch to change it's name because that was our history before stadium sponsors were ever heard of.
If Adidas stumped up 10 million for the naming rights, I'm sure it wouldn't be turned down and neither should it be. Just because we're in the black it doesn't mean we can say "we don't need the money, we'll keep our old sponsor's name"

sa9 Its not our decision to make. we are tennants. As for the inside of the stadium ivor i agree about it looking to grey. when i think back to the amount of times i have white washed the vetch then i lose count. It would not take that long with an army of volunteers to whitewash the liberty...I would volunteer for sure and brighten up the place...

That's fair comment, but I still believe the council would want to capatalise on lucrative naming rights if a big company stumped the cash up, and if that were to be the case surely the club's current profile on the world stage should entitle us to a wedge of the revenue in the same sort of way as players get paid for their image rights.
I'm sure it's all very complex, but I can't see Liberty name staying for good. Money talks

why would they spoil the liberty brand that they have worked so hard at all around the world to change its name that nobody would recognize. Its not worth it....everyone associate's the swans playing at the liberty now and that should not change so the council can make money out of it....I wish we had our own stadium rather than plough millions into the liberty anyway...

Agree , we're slowly getting world wide recognition and the stadium name is associated with us .God forbid we went down the route of Newcastle ,if has to change I'd rather it be with historical links than purely commercial (thats me being naive I know ).
