That aimed at me...? If so, do you mind telling me how much you weigh, I like to keep note of all my catches
The funny thing with Michu is he was wwll known in La Liga for being the top scoring midfielder, but with the olympic buzz peoples attention seemed to be diverted to those players. The price was so low because the club was desperate for cash too.
I have no argument for how good Michu looks at present and there is no doubt whatsoever that if the season finished now he would be the signing of the season, in all likeliness he will be anyway come the end of the season. However, I was intrigued by those saying he was an established goalscoring midfielder in Spain, so did a little research: 2007-08: 1 in 14 games 2008-09: 1 in 26 games 2009-10: 6 in 30 games 2010-11: 7 in 33 games 2011-12: 15 in 37 games TOTAL: 30 in 140 games Call me crazy if you like but one in every 4.6 games isn't 'great', and I've ignored his earlier years in the Spanish second division too which would have made the stats worse. Now, I realised people will say that players usually get better with age when it comes to scoring goals. Michu is currently 26 (21 March 1986) meaning he was 21/22 in that first season. For arguments sake, lets ignore 2007-08 and 2008-09. Between 2009 and 2012, he got 28 in 100 games which equates to one to 3.8 games, not bad for a midfielder but still not great IMO. So basically, he had one good season for Rayo Vallecano before joining Swansea. Hardly established in La Liga eh...?
I said he was a quality player and also agreed he's one of those who's done ok in Spain and does amazing in the PL ala Torres cos it's an inferior league. So not me
I can see that argument and wasn't disputing it. Like you said, Torres' goalscoring record in La Liga wasn't exactly top notch but he was superb for the first two years at Liverpool. Of course, there are other examples that show it the other way such as Morientes but I think we need to stick to more recent examples. There is no argument that four or five years ago when we regularly had two or three teams in the CL semi-finals, no league stood up to the Premier League but it is very different nowadays
