hmm. sounds like one to avoid in all honesty. no idea if he's 'got it' or not but if a club wants to offload someone and says purchasing him was 'a mistake', then that can't be a good sign!

ok. i've just had an interesting little chat with a norwegian friend on twitter who was raving about this guy!

said he was an intelligent and creative number 10, great dribbler too. so maybe the initial hype around him as a youngster is still valid, its just that he's not been loved at hamburg?

anyway, he said he'd walk into our first team. food for thought... he's on a free too

EDIT* scratch that last bit - he meant he's free to leave, not available for free <doh>

A cheap player potentially with something to prove? That sounds familiar! So a number 10 being further competition/cover for Wessi? Is Butterfield and Bennett not enough in that department? Or would we only move for this guy if we were to ship out a midfielder?

Think I do vaguely recognise the name,
    From watching occasional Norwegian games,
But as Super said it´s a few years ago
    And with a name like Skjelbred, I hope it´s a no! <laugh>

as usual, i think there's an awful lot of guessing going on in the media to feed their hunger for a transfer frenzy! :emoticon-0163-pizza

I'm no journalist, and I'm probably over-thinking this, but if I was a lazy journalist, the first name to write a rumour about wouldn't be a Hamburg reject, who's also a creative midfielder, an area we're already pretty strong in. So either it's incredibly creative journalism, or maybe there's something in it? My guess is still the former though.

Bit off-topic, DH, but are we such a bad bunch that we need a third mod on the forum?
Or has Maestro been retired out to stud?

Ah, I wondered when this would come up. I'm not a mod around here, but on the F1 board, where someone stepped down. I've got no powers at all around these parts.

Coincidentally, the BBC have an interview with him here. He's playing in the Cup of Nations, so I can't see the point in a bid now when prices are inflated.

And their newest recruit Aaron McLean is slagging the place off - we need you, DH, to step in and prevent total anarchy <ok> <laugh>

I'm taking this as a good sign. How many times do you hear a manager categorically deny making a bid, or having contact with a club about a player and then a couple of days later that player then signs for the club

I know Skjelbred is very good on Football manager, currently doing pretty well for me. haha

Seriously though, I don't know what he is like in real life. I have complete faith in Hughton and Chester when it comes to player recruitment though.
