Hey, it ain't some random thought of mine - just echoing what old Mr.Capello thinks. That said, who are the top five right backs? At the moment, there aren't real stand outs and Rangel has been playing out of his skin...
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2013/01/10/91466-32583663/ Well, Del Bosque agrees too - Rangel for Spain!
Rafael, Johnson, Ivanovic, Azcilepueta (sp), Sagna, Walker, Phil Jones, Debuchy... Are all better, off the top of my head.
Do you even watch Rangel, he's consistently better than most of those. You must be listening to all the hype surrounding English players if you think walker, jones are better and debuchy hasn't played in a top league yet.
Rafael has had very good games going forward but is suspect defensively. Ivanovic isn't really a right back - he's a great centre half. Walker is doing ok - but not setting the world alight. Sagna and Azcilepueta play for big teams, but does that automatically mean they are better? Jones has struggled this season - no way would he be put above him and, like Chris Smalling, he's not really a right back - just an inexperienced centre half pushed over there at times. Debuchy hasn't played over here. I don't really see a player that is obviously miles ahead.
He's a decent player but it's the reality - the PL has a lot of good players in it. Ivanovic is a thug but he's a good defender with a knack for getting goals. Was shocking against you lot though I know there's always a propensity to favour your own players but... at any rate Glen Johnson has been superb this season
Have to admit Glen Johnson would be the challenger I could think of - although it's fair enough to say that we allfavour our own. I'm sure a Fulham / Norwich fan etc could come on here and make an argument for their own players.
Nobody's mentioned Zabaleta...for me the best right back in the prem right now. But yeah I'd say Rangel is in the top 5. Sagna, Walker, Azpilicueta & Johnson all very good. I also think Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton) will become a top right back.
