I've changed my mind, guly to start for the above reasons! Although J Rod was great against stoke and scored against chelsea, feel he deserves a spot too. Although how can you put him ahead of Lambert? Difficult. Wish I was going to this one, last time I went to villa park was sometime in the mid 90's, think it was the last game of the season in a reli battle. We lost but stayed up on GD. Oh saints in the 90's..... hopefully next season we won't be in a season long battle against the drop.
I'm going and I've got a 100% record at Villa Park, so no worries. Should I mention that I've only been once and we weren't playing Villa? Nah, I'm sure that's not important. It would be JRod for me if he could master the art of arriving in the box at the right time when he's in the 3 behind Ricky. You can see that he still prefers being the No.9.
My team for Sat: Boruc Clyne Jos Yosh Shaw Punch Spider-Man Cork Guly Ramirez Jay-Rod Whilst I know Lamberts playing well I think JayRod and Gaston could tear them apart with there neat runs ect and then bring Rickie on against tired legs.
NA said after Chelsea game he expected Clyne and Ramirez to be available. No Lambert???? Your joking!!! Villa looked awful last night with crosses, Guly probably just edging out JRod for that reason. Clyne to start at RB, Cork back to CM. ps.Richardson is 3rd choice RB at best, barring injuries, surprised if ever appears again.
That's something I'd be tempted by. Villa's defence are full of holes and I do think Gaston and Rodriguez could pick holes in them. If Lallana were fit, it would definately be worth a try. Fast counter attacking football on the floor needs a runner up top to latch on to the early balls. Tough call as a more alehouse approach similar to what we did against Stoke could be appropriate. Playing down the flanks and whip the ball in the box.
Not having a go at either player, if Punch was playing for another team (or Shaw) who would come out on top of punch vs Shaw. Just asking as I only get to watch on tv and have yet to see anyone get the better of Shaw, and I see how hard punch has been playing- yet rarely gets after the fullback, yet when he does he generally makes the guy look poor for example the QPR game
Let's hope Shaw celebrates his commitment to the club with a match winning performance to show everyone what they can't have!
Likewise, I'm just as much happy with Clyne as our future at RB as I am about Shaw as our future at LB. Future England full-backs and they're going nowhere!... Hopefully...
For those considering Lambert on the bench, did you think about how many headers he wins in our penalty box. I think he's better at defensive headers than JayRod and that could be important against Villa. Plus, he'll destroy their young defenders.
Just had a look at some Villa pre-match thoughts, they are really depressed. Predictions range from 1-3 to 0-5.
Just watched highlights of the Aston Villa game at SMS...thought I would catch up as I was on holiday then. It had everything..good goal and penalty from Lambert, goals from Clyne and Puncheon, great performance by Ramirez, good debut from Mayuka which earnt the penalty (why don't we see hime more?), and a calm performance from a GK in Gazzaniga (what happened?). More on Saturday please, though I expect Villa to put up a tougher defence than at SMS.
Lambert is going to have them pumped up for this so we need to be out fast. He's in big trouble if they lose this I think.
