I would imagine 2 1/2 years is the minimum length of contract Tonge would accept and probably why what seemed a formality has taken over a week. Decent enough signing, we've missed him since he went back, but I would still hope we get someone else in at CM.
We offloaded Kisnorbo for a month and signed Tate for a month, we offload Gray and sign Tonge - Might be nothing in it but I wonder if Warnock has been told he has to trim the wage bill before more signings are made. I don't really buy into any contractual delays, surely these would have been spoken about while he was with us? Not an inspiring signing for me, Tonge, Norris, Austin, Brown, Green we can only play any two, okay three if we push Green out wide but he isn't a winger so our midfield still lacks quality.
Maybe an attacking CM &/or a winger plus an aditional striker might arrive soon. That said, not a bad signing.
Can't possibly see an attacing CM or any kind of CM arriving to be honest, not when we have so many players in that position. Would be nice to get one and maybe offload a couple of others, Pugh and Brown, not a chance I can see it happening though.
Can't see the point of offloading either Pugh or Brown. Brown is definitely in the Hunter/Bremner mode for subtle tackling! & Pugh has the ability to play in a number of positions. That said, we do seem to have most positions covered now & he isn't even getting too many options off the bench. So maybe his time is coming to an end. I would, however, like us to get a winger to challenge Hall & add width & variety to our attack. There was talk yesterday of possibly getting Dyer. When fit, he really would add a shed load to the team.
I'm unsure about Pugh too. Seen an interesting stat the other day. did you know that of our current squad, he's the 4th top scorer? Considering the lack of opportunitie s he's had .... Also, not so hung up about wingers. I remember the days when we had Bowyer or Bakke playing on the right, and Kewell on the left. Kewell was never an out & out winger, and the other two certainly weren't either. didn't seem to do too badly then, did we? But then, we had a team then, who played for each other. And it was fairly settled, which it hasn't been for years now.
Thanks for this Jock. Kewell may not have been a main stream winger, but he did give us an outlet & width. So not all bad. Bowyer just gave us some steel in the centre or whever he was playing that day. Not sure on the specifics of what Bakke gave us except to say that we were better with him than without. Interesting about Pugh. Just suggests either a lot of changes
Never too early. Just put on the funny cowboy hat with the corks hanging down & pretend you're in Oz. Works every time. Or watch an Ozzie soap. That would drive anyone to drink!
Tonge deal completed! http://www.leedsunited.com/news/201...872?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed
Undisclosed fee for Tonge. Sounds familiar. Past eight years, Bates? Why can we never disclose our fees paid or received
Might upset us if we found out the breakdown of cost was along the lines of: Fee paid: £50,000 Player Signing on fee: £50,000 Agent/Consultation fees: £400,000 Undisclosed sounds so much better to the board!
Heard it was a nominal fee, will we be looking back at this thread Feb 1st thinking is that our lot, can't see us spending much if I am honest
BREAKING...Leeds United have completed the loan signing of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley for an initial period until February 12.
