6'5" huge monster, offer accepted after transfer request handed in http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdou_Kader_Mangane
I think it was one of those where the studs are stuck in the ground and his leg has nowhere to go but in 2
jesus. he's nearly kicked the guy's foot off. kudos to mon if this is a clever ploy to get cattermole better treatment from refs; compared to this guy he'll be needing a halo and little white wings...
Lads, This lad is superb, genuinely. He is a beast in the air and carries the ball well, he also has a bit of pace about him. He is very 'Samba like', he was linked with us when he left Rennes, but we never made a move and obviously he got offered crazy money to go to the middle east. This would be a top drawer signing, take my word for it, I was DESPERATE for us to get the lad 2 summers back.
I think sometimes lads hit these far away leagues and just get forgotten. I'd wager that an agent has approached us on this one, rather than us scouting him, and he fits the profile of what we are looking for. It was a bad decision by the lad to go for the money, as there was a lot of decent interest from very good clubs. The positive of this is the lad is trying to get back to a big league, which suggests a bit of hunger, as we won't go anywhere near his camel-backed pay packet!
Mangane is 29, and a relatively low key Senegal lad. Gyan was a world star not near his prime. Mangane left a financially stricken middle table team in Ligue 1. Gyan left the biggest stage in world football. I fail to see a comparison in reality. Mangane will have effectively earned little, playing for teams in France, Rennes aren't a massive club, his contract would have been small by modern day standars. Gyan was likely earning 3-4 times what Mangane did at Rennes, and likely to get more as he went on, but he spunked his career to chase the money, who even speaks of the lad now? No, no comparison IMO.
Another transfer curve ball if it is realistic/comes off. What a beast of a centre-back he'd be - Benno mark II on mucho, mucho 'roids. Has this whole Danny Graham thing has been no more than a canny ruse orchestrated by the club to deflect away from our genuine activity? well played if so...and keep em coming
Points accepted - but I always have reservations about someone who is prepared to play in the arab leagues (altho I accept the monetary aspect in the circumstances you describe would be attractive)
Your comments are a fair query and view mate, I just think in this case, maybe he's made a couple of million in his career, and had the chance to double it in a year or 2, Gyan was already a multi-millionaire. Gyans boot deal after the World Cup probably matched Mangane's career earnings.
