ALLY McCOIST is hopeful of concluding a deal to keep goalkeeper Neil Alexander at Rangers beyond the end of the season. The 34-year-old is out of contract when the current campaign ends and it was reported yesterday he had turned down an offer from the club. But McCoist met the player before training this morning at Murray Park and was encouraged by what he heard. Now the hope is Alexanderâs agent can speak with chief executive Charles Green and head of football administration Andrew Dickson in order to bring talks to a positive conclusion. The former Scotland international has been in good form for Gers in 2012/13, despite his mistake handing Elgin an equaliser in a 1-1 draw with City at the weekend. Indeed, Alexander is now the only ever-present in the team and has kept 15 clean sheets in 29 matches, his longest run of consecutive games for the side. McCoist said: âI spoke to Neil this morning. We have had good discussions and I am obviously very hopeful him and his representatives can speak to Andrew and Charles. âThere have been one or two things written and said in the Press â and Iâm not sure all of it is accurate to be honest with you. âNeil has shown great loyalty to the club and he has never, ever been a problem. Heâs a great trainer and his professionalism is fantastic. âHe works really well with Jim Stewart so it would be crazy not to encourage someone like that to stay.â ----------------------- I think Alexander has been pretty solid for us over the years and I'm sure he could still go another few years for us but with talk of a new keeper comin in then it could be back to the bench for Alexander and that's why I imagine he is stalling on a new contract.
Wasn't Jorge Campos 5ft 5 or something. A wee short arse with a terrible taste in keeper kits. Yeah I don't think we should be breaking the bank either for him.
Please don't drop Alexander, the way he dropped the ball at the week end. Dropping Him could cause severe damage. You couldn't be sure what would end up broken.
Alexander's loyalty to the club should be rewarded. He's a more than capable keeper at this level. We don't need to spend a lot of money in this area until we are back in the top flight. There's all the stuff about the young Ozzy, who may be really good (just like Matt McKay) but he is inexperienced. Alexander would be an excellent mentor for him. I would find it a bit embarrassing if Alexander left considering his commitment to our club over the years.
You are dead on Moses, no better mentor than Alexander, who would be excellent, mentoring the young goalkeeper in blundering without style or grace .
Aye I'm quite interested to see how that Stella turns out as well, supposedly quite good with his feet although like you say Matt McKay had the same hype. I disagree. Boruc was excellent at blunders.
That is why we finally moved him on. Unlike Alexander Boruc had a couple of excellent years Before he became sloppy. The h..s did not like Boruc, I thought he was a nice guy.
Hibs didn't like Boruc!?! Why not. He was comedy gold. More fails than Mindy.
