08.11 GMT River Plate president Daniel Passarella has confirmed his trip to Milan is to sign Inter Milan's Ricky Alvarez: "I am here for Alvarez, Inter want to sell two players: one is Wesley Sneijder, the other could be Alvarez. I will meet one of their directors and then we’ll see what happens."

So if we are looking for a No. 10 player, Inter are selling two. ONe everyone knows about and the other not as well known. Ricky Alvarez snubbed arsenal a few years back to join Inter and was starting to come into prominensce but fell off a bit. A young player who is very very silky but his number one problem with playing in the prem would be the lightweight issue. He has the skill and quality but would be a huge gable. Could easily go for 8-10 mil I think.

The agent of Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has refused to comment on reports linking his client with an imminent move to Galatasaray. The Turkish club confirmed on Tuesday they have entered negotiations with Inter over a reported 10million euro deal for the 28-year-old.

10mill for Sneijder apparently. Even if his wages are fairly high, thats not bad.

and it is Experience and quality. Two things we lack. Think we have enough youngsters and have enough coming through that we can focus on some more experience now. Not saying they have to be 30, but if they are 26-28 do it.

The trouble is, they aren't going to be fairly high - we would be talking £150-200k a week which is ludicrous

but I have to say though. You are getting a player who has won the lot. If we can get him on his game he is one of the best in the world at AM. He can pick a pass, create on his own, GET IN THE ****ING BOX, score, etc. It is worth 3-4 years of those wages I believe.

    I can see the argument 100% - our owners won't :(

Inter have got to move him on this window, as he could walk for free at the end of the season if he doesn't play in the 2nd half of it (which he won't due to his contract dispute with them) so nearer the deadline the fee could drop, as they seek to offload him. Otherwise they face the nightmare scenario of having to pay his £10M p.a. wages for another 6 months (obscene or what!!) & still seeing him walk for nothing in June.

The fact that Galatasaray are serious contenders for him, shows how far his stock has fallen in the last year, largely due to his wage packet.

Since that at the high end would make his annual wages around 10 million; your talking what looks to be a quarter of our transfer budget gone on one players wages; then add that Stevie is up for renegotiation and can you see the guy and captain who has bust his balls for the club taking considerably less in his final contract than some new, obviously talented but new non the less player? So add another 5 million to move from transfer to wages. So going on a new lean kitty, we now have an annual kitty of 25 million if this one player fails to get us to CL spots.

    Would make you pause somewhat.

Are his wages that high? Then sign him for just a year or two. Or take him on loan until the end, offer to pay some of his wages ( especially if we offload Sahin) and then Inter and Sneijder can get some more spotlight on the player, some more interest and win win for all. <ok>

    ------Lucas-------Gerrard------
    ------------Sneijder----------

Much more confident in that midfield.

Someone probably will snap him up. We might not be able to afford him and he isn't as good as he used to be, but he would improve us, thats for sure. Maybe not the likes of city, utd, chelsea and Arsenal though.

The wages are extremely high for a player who hasn't played for quite a while, been hit with a few injuries and for someone who appears to only be motivated my money.

I'm not sure what the tax rates are like in Italy, but I think they're better than the UK rates so we would probably have to pay him more in order to keep his net salary the same.

Yes - we would love his experience and ability. But there has to be a balance and I think the amount we spend in his salary could be better spent ...

Problem with Wesley is that he wouldn't fit properly into the 4-3-3. He prefers to sit in the hole - not as a false nine or an attacking midfielder, or as an inverted winger.

Feel we need more of a LB first before another CB but if we could get him ont he free then I could see the logic.

I rather we go back to the way were - Rafa never/rarely signed world class players. He signed players who had a good reputation with a lot of potential around Europe but never consider as a top class player. He would then turn into WORLD CLASS players e.g.

Alonso came from Sociedad for about £10m - highly regarded around Europe but no one took the risk.

Mascherano wasn't good enough for West Ham but we saw the potential.

Torres was a fantastic talent but no one took the risk because he wasn't that prolific for Atheltico Madrid.

And the likes of Reina, Agger etc.

Luis Suarez is one another example.

Haven't seen much of him but when I did, he didn't look special. Doesn't seem that great on the ball, baggy touch although he would provide much needed speed, strength and physical dominance.

I think that is the thing. I have a feeling the club are a bit worried about Coates adapting and might be looking for precisely this. THe Mirin kid looks very similar, provide pace and strength. I can barely think of a LB we should look into at the moment so is the lack of real quality in that position. Need to get back on FIFA and find them. <laugh>

I think Mirin would be a better shout as he seems to have more intelligence and technique <ok>

I think the French league has been getting better and can definitely find some great playrs and steals in there. St. Etienne, Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux, Montpellier are some decent teams and could def get some players from there. Sissokho from Toulose could be a very impressive DM for us and for probably 10 mil tops.

I think we mentioned this before but a real beast in midfield in needed. Sissoko would definitely fit the bill!

I can think of Diame and Diaby right off the top of my head who just bossed us. Mikel and yaya did at times as well. This is where Joe really really struggles. Lucas can do well but isn't really steel more of a smart DM for me.
