Not great but not all gloom and doom like some of our latest news has been.

    The latest from the Ronnie.

YOHAN CABAYE is facing a race against time to be fit for Newcastle United's trip to Carrow Road - but his close pal Mathieu Debuchy is still in line for his Premier League debut against Norwich City on Saturday.

The clash with the Canaries may also come too early for defender Steven Taylor.

However, Newcastle fans are likely to see Fabricio Coloccini, Papiss Cisse and Jonas Gutierrez all return to the starting line-up after the FA Cup debacle against Brighton and Hove Albion.

United boss Alan Pardew had hoped the duo would be back for the clash in Norfolk.

However, when asked if it could be too soon, Pardew told the Chronicle: “I think it might be, but we will push them as hard as we can.

“We cannot bring them back, play them for one game and then they are out for five.

“It is better if they come back and stay fit.”

Pardew’s side beat Chris Hughton’s boys 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.

However, while remaining respectful of the feelings of Newcastle fans after resurrecting the club after they were relegated to the Championship, Hughton will still be looking to get one over his former employers.

Pardew added: “We are on a knife-edge now with form and everything else.”

Yet Newcastle should have ex-Lille star Debuchy back at their disposal.

Pardew said: “Debuchy comes into the team and we will look like we have a much stronger team than at the weekend.” James Perch, though, looks set to be ruled out of the game at Carrow Road.

Pardew added: I am a little bit worried about Perchie.

“Shola is ineligible because of his red card too.

“Perchie is doubtful with his knee, but hopefully, Jonas will be back and Colo and Papiss.

“They should train on Thursday with a bit of luck.”

    Fingers crossed.

We shouldn't rush any players back. I personally hope Cabaye is just on the bench and gets a cameo.

I hope Jonas' rest will see the return of his old form.

That in itself will be like having a new player.

So if we count Jonas, then count Saylor, and Raylor, add Debuchy, let's assume Remy signs too..

Wouldn't we then have 5 new signings already in the transfer window?
