I thought this deserved a thread of its own. The FIFA world team of the year is as of below; •Iker Casillas (Real Madrid) •Dani Alves (Barcelona) •Gerard Pique (Barcelona) •Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) •Marcelo (Real Madrid) •Andres Iniesta (Barcelona) •Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) •Xavi (Barcelona) •Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) •Radamel Falcao (Atletico Madrid) •Lionel Messi (Barcelona) Most notably all are from the Spanish league, they didn't name a bench. However, a few Watford players might have made it. Does this really show how strong the Spanish league has become? I can't believe the Bundesliga and Prem got overlooked after the CL final, not one player in a full 11. Do you think anyone else deserves a place in the starting 11? For the debate I'd throw in Andrea Pirlo and Vincent Kompany and get Alonso and Xavi out. Still, it looks like a very strong team as it is ! I don't know much about the Bundesliga but surely there must be a better defender there or in the Prem than Alves or Pique. Maybe Ashley Cole for Marcelo? He won the CL after all...
Bench: 1 Julio Iglesias 2 Jose Maria Olazabal 3 Salvador Dali 4 George Santayana 5 Antonio Banderas 6 Pedro Almodovar 7 Miguel Cervantes So they're not all footballers and some have already departed this life...there must be something about them that FIFA might favour...
You would have thought a Chelsea or Bayern player might have made a team at least as they reached the champions league final.
Way too many Real and Barca players Personally would have have either Buffon, Neuer or Cech in goal, Cole and Lahm in as full backs, possibly Kompany alongside Ramos. I think Mata would have to be in there too - maybe instead of Alonso. Can't really argue too much about Xavi, Iniesta, Messi or Ronaldo, but possibly Van Persie in there instead of Falcao as he has done it with 2 clubs over the last 12 months!
1. Marcelo must be one of the most overrated players around at the mo. Oh he's quick and he gets forward a lot, oh and he plays for Real Madrid, must be the best LB in the world then? Take a look at how many goals Real have let in this season, the guy is like Bosingwa, good going forwards but cant defend. He's not even the best Brazilian LB, Maxwell, Aurellio and that lad for Corinthians are all better IMO. 2. NO PIRLO!!!???!!!, Im sorry but........ He helped Juventus win their first league title in god knows how many years and was for many people (myself included) the 2nd best player in the Euro's. 3. Since when has Cristiano Ronaldo been deployed as a wide midfield player??? Never for Real Madrid as for them he's almost always used as a wide forward tucked inside. More of a striker than a midfielder.
