That's what I mean about Jones having a point to prove. Every time I see him he likes more than capable, but is having to play in a team where he just gets long balls to deal with all the time and the way Stoke play means he doesn't get as many chances as our Danny I would think...

If he was in addition to Danny I would agree as he will give us pace and height, I just think its bad business letting Danny go for £4mil and replacing him with a less prolific goal scorer, i think he went to Stoke for £8mil so cant see us getting him for £4mil or less

Can you really see Huw selling him for £4m ? Here is a man who kept Dorus here instead of selling him, here is a man who said that the backroom staff were not included in Brendan's move to Liverpool. Think you need to give him credit to get the maximum possible for our club .

I am not a big Danny fan, but this sounds like a terrible bit of business. Surely not true.

Danny has to be worth a minimum £6 million when you look at some of the other deals that have been done in the past year. He got 12+2 last season and currently has 3 in 3 despite being out of the side for a while.

Huw has to play hardball here. We are not a charity, neither do we want to be handing a striker, bursting with a point to prove, to any of our direct rivals. How stupid would we look if his goals took his new team above us in the table bearing in mind that each position will be worth about a £1 million this season.

If the transfer fee is high enough, fair enough but otherwise keep the player. He will still do a good job for us.

By the way, couldn't quite hear all of a radio report today about Aspas but I got the sense that any deal with him is now off. Anyone got more news on this?

I really don't want him here at Sunderland, obviously because of his connection with Newcastle but more importantly, we have better in Fletcher and Wickham. If Martin O'Neill signs him they will be a lot of raised eyebrows for the wrong reasons.

I wouldn't disagree with Fletcher, very good player but, c'mon, Wickham??????????? Where is his goal scoring pedigree? He hasn't really developed one yet whereas Danny scored for fun in the Championship (top scorer) and got 14 in his first PL season. Can Wickham get near that? Prospect maybe, but yet to do it for me.

If we can make a profit out of Danny then that's good Business but i would prefer him to stay as he will get to play with the way sir mike likes to change the selection of his players...If it was any other manager then he would be better off elsewhere if he wants game time, He will get plenty of game time under sir mike imo..

it must be difficult for Danny since the arrival of Michu and the impact Michu has had, but much as i hate to say this Michu won;t be with us forever, so as a proven goalscorer unless silly money is on the table i think we should keep Danny.
we're good also for Danny, he's onto a good thing with the Swans. if he goes elsewhere it may not work for him and he could find himself in a similar position of not getting as much game time as he wants, there's plenty of ex-swans who could advise him of this possibility.
i suspect its the realisation that he's no longer an automatic choice on the teamsheet that has upset him. but with the number of games we play and the squad rotation this is the reality for a lot of the first-team players. the grass isn't always greener and i think he has a lot more to offer us and will have plenty of opportunity to show us

we could if we are not careful end up selling Danny and find on the last day of the window that we get an offer for michu too good to turn down, we would end up in sh1t street....

Reported Swansea City target Iago Aspas has insisted he is happy at Celta Vigo and will not be leaving this month.

Michael Laudrup has made several shrewd signings since taking charge at the Liberty Stadium and has been linked with a winter swoop for 25-year-old forward Aspas.

Celta coach Paco Herrera stated in December that the club had no intention of letting such a key player leave, and Aspas says he will stay at least until the end of the season.

"I have read many things saying I was going to go in the winter, but they are not true," he explained.

"Already it has been said several times that at least I will be here until June 30, then we'll see what's best for the club and for me."

Aspas, who scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Real Valladolid on Sunday, has come through the ranks at Celta and still has four-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.

"I have been at Celta 17 years and I am very proud to belong to this club," he said.

"Now I'm very calm because I have a contract until 2017."

That are plenty of other players , so he wants to stay with them, good on him for showing some loyalty to a club that he's been with years. So we target someone else and maybe come come back in the summer ?

Well the Times are reporting it's a done deal!

    Link:http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/premierleague/article3650698.ece

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed if we have agreed £4 Million, as we paid £3.5 Million for him as a Championship player, but he's proved with last years 12 Prem goals, that he's Premiership quality, and he's on form at the minute, so how come we are only making £500,000 on this? Have we fallen out that badly with him? Not like Huw Jenkins to do a deal like this, thought he was worth at least £6 Million, but if the Times report is true then he had a medical last night with Sunderland!................<ok>

He will play tomorrow as his twitter says 'London bound' unless he's heading for a medical with QPR...
