I don't think he was an integral part of the team, I think many of his caps came as a subsitute if I am correct!! But what I am saying if he didn't get injured he would have been good enough for the first team not to just get in the squad but because of his injuries he didn't make the squad because he was injured!! It was certainly a golden generation of players but also a golden generation of dissapointments!!
England hasnt had a golden generation in my lifetime. They have an average bunch of players and scummy papers like the S*N who like building everything up into a media storm so a bunch of neanderthals buy their paper. When they have managed to make half the population believe their hype they then cant wait to knock said player down with a scandal. Take the average world cup. The England squad has done well, qualified but havent been stand out. The S*N then has a massive campaign telling everyone who buys their paper or by TV adverts (which is why I have the misfortune of seeing it) that we are going to win the competition and how they are backing us, until we fall short because we are actually not that good so they can have a go at whoever missed a penalty, flapped at a tame shot, got sent off and can be used as a scape goat.
Yep agree with this. I think we may well be the only Championship club who would've gone for him as I'd imagine we're the only club he would've come to on lower wages. I can see him going abroad to try and make a bit more money tbh!!
Nathan Ellington has just come back from his loan spell at Scunthorpe! Hooray all our christmases have come at once!!!!
Ronan Murray, Jason Scotland, Nathan Ellington, Michael Chopra, David McGoldrick, Aaron McLean, Daryl Murphy, Nouble..... I think we need another Striker!
Tractorbhoy... Mexico 86, Italia 90, Euro 96, France 98 and South Korea / Japan 2002... we were a very real threat in each of those tournaments but have been in none since.
i would suggest nouble has untapped potential. he's pretty quick but he certainly isn't a goalscorer. he's got decent physique but as i say i think he's going to end up being a wide man rather than a centre forward. he's somewhere between league one and championship at this stage but there's much room for improvement under the right regime. as for dyer, i can't understand the 'england worst XI' comment from yorkie. i mean, i'm not doubting that's what you'd heard but what is this based on? he always did ok for england whenever he played and had it not been for injuries would probably have about 60+ caps. if we want to start picking crap players who have played for england i'd go for people like michael rickets - not kieron dyer. having said all that, he is a player to avoid signing! i think this might be the end of his career in england and i fully expect him to join a major league side and then get injured again just to add, matt holland was a fabulous servant to your club and a top player, but for me, dyer had natural ability far and above that of holland. i can't include dos santos as he played seven games for you and wasn't yours, though i will happily admit he was outstanding in the game which effectively relegated us to league one
I seem to recall that we didn't miss Dyer after he left us for Newcastle. Jamma Wright, Jim Magilton and Matty Holland were decent Midfielders for us and we got promoted the season after he left!

i think we'd have had a real chance in euro 04 had rooney (who was in sparkling form) not been injured in the portugal match. i really do think we'd have won it that year. the fact greece won it says it all...
doesn't make him a bad player though. you just made the most of the fee you received for him to improve your team.
And you're forgetting Taylor and that MM sees JET as a striker!! Thing is out of all of them I still don't see a goalscorer apart from Chopra!!
Dyer IMO fits in with a long list of players who've been such as waste of talent because they've been injured who would've kept alot of the "Golden Generation" out of the team players such as Woodgate (best CB of his generation), King, Kirkland, Ashton, Hargreaves and possibly Owen could be added to that!! I think 2004 & 2006 were the years we really should've won something. Gary Neville said they're his real dissapointments at International level because they were the 2 tournaments they genuinely had a chance of winning something and completely underperformed!! We certainly had the players to do it, unfortunately we had a poor coach and poor attitude!!
Would be a great signing IMO JWM but I don't really think he's a McCarthy style player. He's not power and pacey and also he doesn't really fit into a rigid 442 formation!!
I don't think Mick is that blinkered ptc! Yes he likes big powerful frontmen but he also admires skillful creative players in Midfield areas. Lets just see how this all pans out. Whatever happens it sure beats all the dull disappointments of previous transfer windows when we ended up with **** all!
