The game was brought forward from Monday night as Rangers drew with West Brom in the FA Cup. This will be the 135th time the two teams have met and Rangers come into the game in 20th place in the table on 13 points after their 1-0 away win at with Chelsea, while Spurs are in 3rd place on 39 points after a 3-1 home win against Reading. Queens Park Rangers were founded in the same year as Tottenham Hotspur - 1882 - with the merger of two local teams, St Jude's and Christchurch Rangers. Most of their players were based in the Queen's Park district of North-West London and the club had a very nomadic early history moving to over 20 different grounds before settling down at Loftus Road in 1917. The White City Stadium was also home for short periods. The first meeting between Spurs and QPR came in November 1890 in the second qualifying round of the London Senior Cup and resulted in a 1-1 draw. Spurs won the replay at home 2-1. The Spurs team featured several of the youngsters who founded the club, including Jack Jull and Robert Buckle. Two friendly matches were played in 1892 & 1893 before the next competitive game in September 1899 in the Southern League. Both teams were also members of the Southern & District Combination League during that 1899-1900 season. Spurs won three of the four matches that season with one match drawn. The clubs played eight more seasons in the Southern League together and were also members of the Western League from 1900-01 to 1905-06. Tottenham generally had the upper hand over their West London rivals during this period . Tottenham Hotspur joined the Football League for season 1908-09 and thereafter matches for the next 40 years against Queens Park Rangers were limited to minor competitions, friendlies and matches played during both World Wars. The first Football League meeting between the two clubs came in Division Two in October 1948 with Eddie Bailey scoring the only goal at White Hart Lane while the return fixture at Loftus Road ended in a 0-0 draw. Spurs did the 'double' over Rangers the next season on their way to the Division Two title, winning 3-0 at the Lane with a Bill Nicholson goal and a brace from Les Bennett, while the reverse fixture at Loftus Road was won 2-0 with goals from Eddie Bailey and Les Medley. As a Third Division club, QPR won the Football League Cup in 1967 beating holders West Bromwich Albion in the first Final held at Wembley Stadium and were also promoted to the Second Division with players like Rodney Marsh, the Morgan twins (Spurs would later sign Roger), Tony Hazell, Mark Lazarus, Mike Keen and former Spurs striker Les Allen. They won promotion again the next season and played their first season in the Top Flight of English Football in 1968-69. Spurs won the home match that season 3-2 with goals from Phil Beal, Alan Gilzean and David Jenkins. The away fixture at Loftus Road ended in a 1-1 draw with Jimmy Greaves scoring for Spurs. QPR were relegated at the end of the season. Rangers were back in the First Division for season 1973-74 and in October they beat Spurs in the Football League Cup second round 1-0. The League match at the Lane resulted in a 0-0 draw and QPR won the away game 3-1 with Martin Chivers scoring from the penalty spot for Spurs. Honours were even the next season with Rangers winning 2-1 at the Lane and Spurs winning 1-0 at Loftus Road - John Duncan scored both of Tottenham's goals. 1975-76 saw QPR finish as First Division runners-up, which was their best ever finish in the Football League. The first FA Cup meeting between the two clubs came during the 1980-81 season and Spurs drew a third round match at Loftus Road 0-0 but won the replay 3-1 at the lane with goals from Tony Galvin, Glenn Hoddle and Garth Crooks. Spurs would go on to win the FA Cup that season. The teams met each other again in the FA Cup the very next season but this time it was in the Final at Wembley. Glenn Hoddle put Spurs ahead in extra time only for Terry Fenwick (later to sign with Spurs) to grab the equaliser five minutes from the end. The replay was held at Wembley five days later and a 6th minute penalty scored by Glenn Hoddle was enough to ensure the silverware would remain in North London. Many neutrals felt that Rangers were hard done by, as they had played very well indeed. Both Queens Park Rangers and Spurs were founder members of the Premier League, but Rangers only managed to remain for four seasons before being relegated at the end of the 1995-96 season. Honours were even during the eight games played in the competition with both Spurs & QPR winning three games each with two matches drawn. The fixture at White Hart Lane last season in October was won 3-1 by Spurs. First half goals from Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart saw Spurs go in 2-0 up at half-time. Jay Bothroyd scored a header to put QPR a goal behind after 62 minutes but Gareth Bale's second goal of the game ten minutes later ensured that Tottenham would get all three points. QPR won the reverse fixture at Loftus Road in April 2012 1-0 with an Adel Taraabt 24th minute goal enough for all three points. During the summer, New Zealand defender Ryan Nelsen moved from Spurs to QPR on a free transfer. The game at White Hart Lane in September 2012 resulted in a 2-1 win for Spurs. Former Tottenham striker Bobby Zamora gave Rangers the lead after 22 minutes and they went in at half-time 1-0 ahead. Gareth Bale's corner on the hour mark was headed towards goal by Steven Caulker and took a deflection off Alejandro Faurlin and just a minute later Jermain Defoe secured all three points for Spurs by tapping-in a shot from Gareth Bale which had rebounded off the crossbar. In November 2012, former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp took over at Queens Park Rangers after Mark Hughes had been sacked. Overall, Tottenham Hotspur have won 61 of the 134 matches played so far with Queens Park Rangers winning 34 and the remaining 39 games drawn. please log in to view this image Full History of Tottenham Hotspur v Queens Park Rangers Matches 1890-2013 please log in to view this image They Played for Spurs & Rangers.... I think the gap from the Chav win might help us a bit here, plenty of time for the adrenalin pump from that to settle, and time to notice they're still bottom. It was a soft side put out, but a win at the Bridge is exactly that, a win, something thats not been a strong point of ours! Something else that generally eludes us despite starting well would do here, an early goal, which would be a psychological blow, but no matter if not, a professional approach from staff and players should see at least a point here. I'm glad the game is brought forward, 2 days less of the media circus, I just want to get this fixture out the way now.
just there? or to this day? looks like a bloody tool. cheers again 6061! not looking forward to this one, it's got upset written all over it and we're due a defeat now! However, on paper we should get a result. Lets hope we don't see a repeat of their result against chelsea. We have to be beating these sorts of teams, it's where we've dropped so many points in recent seasons.
This is arguably, along with Chelsea, one of AVB's biggest games of the season. To be able to get one over the former manager of the team you now manage is huge for a manager and I think Andre will desperately want to win this win, even if he comes out and says it's just another game etc. Team I'd like to see: Lloris, Naughton, Dawson, Vertonghen, Ekotto Lennon, Sandro, Dembele, Bale Dempsey, Defoe Subs: Friedel, Walker, Caulker, Parker, Townsend, Sig, Ade Naughton has been really impressive lately and deserves his place in the team, especially as Walker - although improved a lot on early form - still hasn't been at his best. Ekotto being back is a big bonus, I'm a big fan and he didn't look too rusty vs Coventry so I'd like him back in the team ASAP. Dempsey came off the bench vs Reading and scored (albeit flukey) and was in great form vs Coventry where as Ade has looked completely uninterested despite scoring against Reading. I prefer a 4-4-2 formation all day long but Ade doesn't deserve his place at the moment in my opinion and it'd be harsh to drop Dempsey after scoring 3 goals in two games, you have to play players who are in a purple patch and I think Clint may be entering that. Going for 3-1 Spurs. Defoe, Lennon and Dempsey our scorers.
Arry's first match against us since he left fills me with concern so it's Gobbus shuttus titus ducksarsus from me.
Both QPRs victories in the league have been in london derbies when the form book goes out the window and i was listening to monday night football and pleat was talking about our dreadful record at Loftus road, saying we have won something like 5 of the past 22 visits, add that to the fact Arry knows our squad inside out, i'm not feeling too confident about this game.
Walker's current form does not warrant him being dropped imo. His stats in his last game against Reading were excellent, he had the second best passing rate of the 22 players on the pitch and he also made more successful passes in the last third of the pitch than any other player. His weakness is that diagonal high ball which he struggles to read but when Dawson plays, he does clear that ball away before Walker has been exposed. I find Walker performs better when he has Dawson alongside him. I am not a great lover of Naughton, he doesn't offer enough going forward for me, and whilst he is definitely doing ok, he's doing nothing more than ok which to me makes him inferior to Walker.
Very poor performance in the first half, with Bale having a dire 45 minutes at left-back, if I remember right. Lucky to only go in one down Came out set up differently after taking Sigurdsson off and sticking Caulker on and looked a fair bit better, but they had a really poor couple of minutes and fell to bits. Hopefully it'll be a better performance in this game, but with the same result. 3 points, please.
That's interesting you say that about Dawson, it's not something I'd noticed but it makes sense. I'd mostly been noticing Dawson's long, diagonal passes After winning against Chelsea I can see Redknapp setting up to frustrate us in the same way clubs did to him when he was manager. They're well set up for their defence and midfield to sit deep and narrow whilst having enough pace to cause us problems on the break.

forgive me chaps, but I've only just realised how important a win is this weekend. Forgetting the 'Arry link, we have a massive opportunity to really cement our place amongst that top 3/4. I completely forgot that Arsenal have City and Chelsea are away to Stoke. providing we win: If the former draw, we will be 7 points ahead of Arsenal and 4 points behind City. (yes arsenal have a game in hand, but they've still got to win it) If the latter game is a draw (easily possible at The Britannia) we'll be 3 points ahead of Chelsea, which in theory makes they're game in hand... redundant. - Just the goal difference. If arsenal win, we'll only be 3 points behind city and if Chelsea lose... well... Happy days! We'll havea 4 point lead and they can't catch us even with the game in hand. It's a very important weekend. We've got to show that we don't buckle against teams at the bottom like we have in the past... Cough *wolves twice* Cough. COYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His current form hasn't been the greatest, he's still nowhere near as good as he was last season and Naughton has been played out of position more often than not and bar the Arsenal (and stupid pass against Maribor) I think Naughton has been the better of the two this season. If anything, Walker hasn't deserved to have had such a run in the team this season for him to have finally started looking better, he was dire in the first 10 or so games and was at fault for a good few goals (though playing with Gallas didn't help). I do agree with you with the Dawson part though, I think since Daws has (finally!) been reinstated into the defence, we've looked far more assured at the back as a whole and Walker has most certainly benefitted. While I think overall Walker is the better of the two overall, I think it's harsh on Naughton to continually be dropped when I consider him to be in better form than Walker. Don't get me wrong, I won't complain seeing Walker start over Naughton, just think Naughton deserves maybe a 2-3 game run at RB in the league and see how it goes.
Fair points, but I still think Naughton offers less going forward whether he's L or RB, I know his primary function is to defend, but in games where we dominate possession, I think we might miss Walker more than Naughton. Just a thought!
