Was going to hijack ptc's thread but decided to make a new one. Having already posted about my favourite shows I thought I would make this to see what everyones favourite comedy moments from the past are. Please list some shows, along with your favourite characters and phrases. I'll start us off with Bottom....................anything that involved bodily harm to Eddie/Richie was funny. Shooting Stars..........the pulling out of handbags made me laugh every time The Fast Show..........this week I are mostly be wearing....womens bra's
Dad's Army... Don't tell him Pike! Trouble is there are too many but I will come back with my all time top 5
Fawlty Towers.....................Manuel!!!!! You have to go back further than me JWM (I'm only 36) so I'll give you some time
All of the above plus The Young Ones (every one of the 12 episodes is genius) Blackadder (preferably any scene in Prince George's quarters) Only Fools & Horses (Batman & Robin episode always comes to mind first!) The Royle Family (incredibly poignant Christmas special this year, almost in tears at the end!) Up Pompeii (The prologue...) The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer (Frying Pans and This Is Your Life!) Alan Partridge (I've come free at the side) and finally for now Derek & Clive (Get The Horn)
Tony Hancock....A PINT!!??? That's nearly an arm full Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads....Any episode! The writing of Clement and Le Frenais is pure genius. Steptoe & Son..... Any Episode but one that springs to mind starred a very young and fit Joanna Lumley as Harold's girlfriend.
Oh... going back a bit further.. Till Death Do Us Part, absolute genius. Monty Python (the Cleese argument sketch) The Fresh Prince and Cosby Show deserve mentions... as does Richard Pryor, the best stand up comic in history...
Paul Whitehouse = comedy genius. Wrote most of Harry Enfields stuff and then made the fast show. Benny Hills chase scene at the end was made great by the music. Have fun with this thread lads, I'm off to work with a big smile on my face thinking of all the great British comedy, America doesn't hold a candle to it.
Another comedy classic...
Too true. The only show worth watching I can think of from 20 years of American TV comedy is Friends. Filmwise it's a different story though, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Mike Myers, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler and others like them all worth their weight in gold.
Steptoe for me. Especially the one at the funeral, where there is a glass of beer on the coffin, and Albert says, "This is a momentous moment. It's the first bloody drink I've had on him." - Brilliant Any Hancock. Rising Damp Four Candles sketch - as already mentioned The 2 silent comedies by Eric Sykes - The Plank and Mr H is late
Classic Warky and I have to agree 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' is brilliant. My all time fave and I must have watched those DVDs dozens of times and they still make me belly laugh each time They don't make 'em like they used to mate The original 'Reggie Perrin' anyone ?
So funny yet so achingly poignant! A very moving final scene from Blackadder, brilliant writing from Ben Elton
I agree KIO I can watch the Likely lads over and over and still laugh my nuts off! Brilliant writing and brilliant acting from the pair. It defo made James Bolam into a star!
