A campaign was launched today, to come up with a flag for East Yorkshire, as apparently we haven't got one. Which was a bit of a surprise to me, as I thought this was it: please log in to view this image Anyway, if you fancy having a go as designing one, you've got until Feb 10th. Details are on here, along with a potential option that is supposed to be amber and black, but looks yellow to me... http://andystrangeway.wordpress.com/east-riding-flag/
Isn't that top one the Yorkshire flag? Not necessarily the East Yorkshire flag. In my head, the East Yorkshire one would be green and white. Not that it matters, as the winner will be something incredibly overdesigned with "FRIENDSHIP" scrawled across the bottom. EDIT: Just made a green and white flag, but realised I'd actually made the flag of Nigeria.
Apparently, it's an East Yorkshire flag above, but if you flip it so the two points are at the top, then it's a Yorkshire flag.
I saw that one too, but if that's our flag, I think it's a good idea that we design a new one... please log in to view this image
How about a message saying "We hate Wessies" or "the seaside is ours, it's time to go home". I'd keep it the same.
I'm sure the East Riding rose is an upward pointing pentagram (which is what the 5 petaled English rose represents) and not an inverted pentagram like as what the Yorkshire rose is.
I always thought the three ridings each had their own variation of the Yorkshire Rose. Each one ever so slightly different. I want a Humber Bridge with a big red rose behind it and the word ' North Humberside' printed in gold paint along the length of the bridge. As a finishing touch a Humberside Police car should be speeding along the third largest single span suspension bridge in the world to break up a fight between two middle aged blokes. One trying to scrub off the Humberside sign and one trying to prevent the removal of the much loved name. The identity of the two blokes scrapping, well ( adopts thick Geordie accent).......... YOU DECIDE.
Why do we have the roses anyway? The 'war of the roses' was only called that by Walter Scott and then years after the event. The war itself took place mainly in Wales and the midlands and we stuck up for the house of Lancaster anyway. **** 'em. Let's have our own flower for Hull and the East Riding, knackers to the Wessies.
If you look at this and blink rapidly, it will send you off in a 'fit'. It could be useful in brainwashing those who still believe in - and use - the label (North) Humberside. (Careful Sgr. Galante....)
It was the House of York's emblem. I'm aware at the time, the North, including our are was mainly a hotbed of support for the House of Lancaster, but i'm guessing it's one of the historic things that sticks.
Back to the Humber Bridge idea, why don't we have a woman on the edge threatening to jump, with Phil Brown talking to her
I always liked the sticker I had in my car with the white rose from OLMs first post, positioned over a clenched fist with the motto: "East Riding for ever, Humberside NEVER!" on it. Surely as we were the ER before those despicable changes, there's one from back then?
