Southampton are ready to boost their survival bid with a £10m offer for Inter Milan youngster Philippe Coutinho, according to sources in Italy.
The newly-promoted side, who currently sit one place above 18th-placed Aston Villa by virtue of their goal difference, raided Serie A back in the summer when they signed Gaston Ramirez from Bologna.
And now manager Nigel Adkins has targeted Coutinho, who has become a peripheral figure at the San Siro this season, having managed just three league starts.
The promising Brazilian midfielder was hailed as a future star when he made his Inter debut in 2010, but the club are now considering selling him in order to fund bids for other players.

Fiorentina do, literally bought an entire new squad in the summer and are apparently finalising a €12m bid for Giuseppe Rossi at the moment. The stadiums are the single biggest problem in Italy at the moment.

Well I've got Cortese's phone number so I'm a day ahead of everyone. I've been sworn to secrecy though, on pain of a life time ban from St Mary's so I'm keeping my trap shut.
The release clause for Ramirez will obviously be at least what we paid for him.
