I'm sick of reading negative posts from people whose only interest seems to be picking the next scapegoat. We played a load of rusty fringe players in a cup match and they were cack. Some of us predicted they would be before a ball was kicked. I don't understand why people are judging our reserve team on one game and criticising them for not being as good as first team players - that's why they're reserves FFS!
At least der Proschwitzer scored and the fringe lads got a run out. It's a shame they sold Cooper as for me he could be as least as good as Bruce or Mcshane given a run in the team, I think people give up on young lads too easily though it sounds like Stewart is about to walk the plank rightly or wrongly next
I remember when Stewart was every City fan's favourite player and how most people saw his injury as the main reason we didn't make the play-offs that season. It's hard to understand why he has regressed, but I think Bruce has decided he doesn't respond to the carrot so he's now trying the stick. Let's hope it works.
My worry is that these players are not managed in the same way as the first team. If they are good enough as individuals they need to be able to work as a unit. It is not as if the FA cup is a surprise fixture.
There'll be a lot more whinging on here if Bruce decides to play the first team against Orient (and Barnsley if we get through) and some personell get injured. For that matter Bruce did the right thing playing the 2nd string. You knew this would be the case but you also expected some committment from them, if they wanted to get into the 1st team. But they didn't perform, and some are miles away from a regular starting place. Which is a worry.
Craig, I've no idea why you come on here, you get upset at the slightest bit of criticism directed towards the club. We drew with a side we should be beating, given that the majority of players playing on Saturday should have been fighting for a new contract, I think discussing who stays and who goes is an entirely relevant discussion to have. I've no idea what you want from a forum, I really don't.
Sorry Percy but this made me laugh out loud. You seem to forget your own reactions to the slightest criticism of Messiah Duffen, The Beloved Brown and The Angel Bullard.
Not really the same, I disagree with them, whereas you seem to be upset by the fact that people are pointing out a **** performance was ****.
Read the OP again and tell me what part of the word "cack" you don't understand? This was my post before the match: "I always hate cup ties like this. Probably a **** crowd but with a decent and enthusiastic away following. Our lads will be mostly fringe players who won't see this as their breakthrough into the first team, but their players will treat it like a cup final. Class might tell in the end but I'm not expecting a goal rout. PS. No I'm not Erik in disguise." There's no doubt they were ****e, but historically our players are always ****e in these sort of matches. Your reaction is similar to the knee-jerk reactions against SB and the team when we lost against Doncaster and looking back at those comments who has been proved right?
So even you think the performance was "cack", but you're still getting upset by people saying the performance was "cack"? What was the point in this thread?
Bloody hell Percy read the OP will you! When did I criticise people for saying the performance was ****e? What I'm criticising is writing off players based on one game where most were rusty, some were playing out of position and few had much incentive considering this was always going to be seen as a game for 'the stiffs'. Of course they should have had a more professional approach, but it wasn't exactly an unexpected performance.
The majority of them had a new contract to play for, people are now saying based on that performance that they shouldn't be offered a new contract. I don't know where the problem lies?
Not true. Cairney has played a few times in the first team this season and although he's no Koren he hasn't received this much criticism.
i would have thought it pish that this is a rare chance the XI v L Orient have had to be together . Surely most of that XI would be training as a unit against Brucies favoured XI , so its a little hard to completely accept as a good reason.
Quite a few of the players have been written off by a number of posters on this forum over the last week to be fair to Craig.
But based on one game though? If that game did anything it merely reaffirmed what people already thought of those players. It did for me anyway.
those where players who should have been busting a gut to prove bruce wrong for not selecting them..that is my problem with them.. i hate it when youth teams are selected but in hindsight they might have showed a bit of effort, most of those on saturday looked pissed off we had interupted there saturday routine of watching soccer saturday, and that im afraid is very worthy of criticism.
The problem is, most of these players don't get full games and certainly not a good run of them. Most of the players mentioned don't get more than 10 full games a season so it's harsh to say we need to get rid. If we get rid we need to bring more players in... and surely we look to strengthen the squad with every signing... Which would then mean that our current first team eventually ends up in the reserves and in exactly the same situation as Dawson, Oli, Cairney and whoever else has taken a bashing over the last few days after having minimal time on the pitch to pick up some form and get back to their 'old self'. Where most people say players couldn't be bothered, I tend to think more that they end up playing with a different group of players each time in these sorts of games. There's little team cohesion, little team chemistry and as a result they'll find it difficult. I think our current resevres are ok for the job as they could fill the gaps well enough in the first team should they need to. It would only be if we took more than 4 injuries to big players in the first team that you'd need to worry. Simpson was a reserve. Fryatt got injured and despite mixed opinions of him on here, we're 2nd in the league with him playing a big part so far.
