Are they your videos mate? If so, you sit pretty much right where I am. I sit in the ML block (the small one to the right of where those videos are taken).

Mate, without trying to cause controversy. If you sit where they are taken then how do you get such a good view of the game so as to write your reports?
The positioning of these vids clearly shows that anyone sitting there cannot possibly have a good view of the other goal; can they?

Like i said, i'm not meaning any offence at all but this just reinforces my view of the attending games and seeing more issue? just simply dont believe it.
Now I've been reading your reports for a few years Judo and they always seem good and I enjoy reading them. I suppose yours and other supporters positioning around the pitch accounts for the differing reports eg Onuha last week?
I would imagine the best views are afforded to those sitting in [prime locations on the half way line as a guess?
i did my "time" in the Paddock then moved to loft upper. I readily accepted that i could not see everything.

like i say mate, keep the reports coming, but just a point i picked up on. Sorry!

The trouble is, is that when your watching at home or in the pub you don't see the bigger picture. You can only see what the producer wants you to see. You really need to be there to see everything that's going on.

Thats my whole point though nines. Who-ever was sitting in the seat that shot the vids cannot possibly have seen what was going on at the other end of the pitch?
i understand they would get the atmosphere, feel, mood and a wider view from thier position, but there is no way they could acurately see a penalty or offside call from sitting there; is there?

I'm obviously missing something here because to me it sems like common sense? (sorry not meant as an insult!)

After going to HQ for 20 plus years, i'm struggling to think of a place where i can get an un restricted close up view of every part of the ground without the obstruction of pillars, other supporters etc.
I'm not saying you see more whilst watching a TV screen in a pub just that the "your view is irrelivant because you weren't there" opinion does not appear to hold much water IMHO.?

I'll happily accept my mistake if someone points out what I'm missing but please bare in mind that i spent a large part of my life at HQ.

Maybe this is one for its own thread at a later date if it can be debated resonably. I'll happily start it ? (mods?)

A view through your eyes is quite different than the same view through a camera. Granted that's not the best position in the ground, but those videos are not an accurate portrayal of what it would be like to watch a match from there - your eyes naturally change focus.

Gotcha!!! I was actually yanking your chain mate. Lol. I apologise for that.

TBH, I can't see that one or the other is truly right. As you realise from going to so many games, that if your there then sometimes you take your eye off the ball. ( To see the bigger picture. ) Or you need to look at a certain section of the crowd or the ref or whatever. You get distracted. For instance, last season v Norwich and the Barton incident. I saw Barton get hacked at, and for whatever reason stopped watching him and kept my eyes on the Norwich player. The bloke then said to me ... '' He's off. '' Good! I thought, thinking he meant the Norwich player. Imagine my surprise when after the ref had raised the red and I saw Barton trudging off? I hadn't a clue why until I saw MOTD.

And again this season, when Green conceded v West Brom. I saw him flap around a bit and then all I knew the ball was in the net! I couldn't see him impeded or what went on. It was at the polar opposiite of the ground. It was only when I got home that I could see what actually had occurred.

So in conclusion. At home you get the benefit of replay's and close ups, but at the game you get the atmosphere and can pick up on the general attitude of the players and off camera movement, among many other idiosyncrasies.

But to say that anyone is better above the other is futile in respect of perfect observation.

Overall, I'd say that the old adage that you 'can't beat being there' rings true.

Fair enough mate, maybe i once the heat dies down a bit and we have a gap in games i'll post something similar and see what evryone thinks.
I agree that there is nothing like being there hence the reason i spent a smalll fortune on going, but having a good view and writing a report based on that view takes some doing esp one as balanced as Judo's or Cols are.

PS. Have you ever sat and worked out how much you have iinvested into QPR? Bloody scarey when you do!Could have paid of my house by now.!

Have a go when/if you get bored on a night shift, may shock you once you include kits, beers, food etc !

OK yeah ColdH, but as example, there's no way anyone sitting in that seat could call an offside decision at the other end of the pitch is there? even using binoculars !

No offence taken mate, its a good point. I do actually sit a few rows back (halfway up the lower loft).

But still yes I agree the view of the goal at the other end isnt great as you say. But you make reference to points such as offsides etc.. Well tbh that doesnt form much of the match report/individuals score. But all the points I make are based on how I see the game, and how I see the players performing from my view - which as you say is why views may differ. But I would like to think the reports I do are an accurate representation of the match (and by and large they seem to be I think?).

From a seat like mine at one end of the ground you can still see much of the general play and enough to make an opinion on the performance of an individual.

Hope that makes sense, but as I say you raise a good point, which is why I guess views can differ sometimes!

I seem to remember a conversation like this on our old MB. I respect everyones view whether they can go to games, or whether they cant. Watching on TV is different to being at the game, but equally both forms of watching the game give enough of a view for everyone to make a good judgement imo.
