Was listening to the match on the radio and they (was it Green?) said that rumour has it that LFC would accept a decent bid for Coates.

If true, it really is scary just how many of the Dalglish era signings didn't make it. Appreciate that Rodgers wants to play differently....but is it really that different? Only Hendo and Downing remain; Neither are nailed on for the starting eleven. Frightening really.

    Fair point.

The signing we made during that era were largely terrible.

We woud be idiots to even contemplate selling Coates at this point. It's not his fault that his 'game time' is limited. He's still young and has plenty of potential that can be fulfilled.

Was what I thought prior to hearing this. If the rumour is true, you have to ask why though! That said, the player himself may not be happy with being fourth choice....who know; fact is the Dalglish signings have all pretty much flopped or failed to impress consistently.

I'm sorry, but Coates has been brilliant at times and Rodgers for the large part has totally ignored him. Back at the start of the season, home to man city, he was a beast and possible motm.

Nobody said he was crap; i'm just quoting a rumour and wondering why? He certainly hasn't shone enough to start more regularly and when played has been patchy....but he is young and has time. He may well want a move a way himself; can't be easy sitting on the bench if you believe in yourself....

For me this highlights a wider point. Benitez got alot of criticism in the latter stages of his Liverpool reign for bad signings (the likes of Pennant, Keane, Johnson, Voronin, Kyriacos, Lucas, etc were often castigated) but overall I think his recors was pretty good even if there was the odd player who failed (sometimes after a big money move). Since he left Roy signed almost exclusively trash (not necessarily bad players, but not top half of the table ones either) and Kenny spent alot of money on mostly average players who flatter to deceive. Jury is out on Rodgers but at least he seems to be trying to build a team around a particular vision of how to play the game.

Rafa's signing and tenure are unfairly criticized imo. Sure he made some mistakes but everyone does. On the whole, he built a team of high class players, where he failed was when the other yanks pulled the plug and he had to complete the squad with journeymen.....Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Kuyt,Masch, Lucas, johnson, Alonso, Torres.....got the best out of carra and gerrard.....he also laid the foundations for the youth set up that is baring fruit now...

Coates is class, we can't sell him. It's not his fault agger nd skrtel compliment each other. Maybe if we played 3 at the back. But IMO he should get more game time than Carra

Coates had a poor game, but he's had great games during his time here also. He needs to play more or be sold because sitting on our bench does him no favours. He should be third pick CB and get more regular game time so he can iron out the mistakes in his game.

Dont forget Martin Kelly here. His competition is not just Carragher. Kelly is better on the ball and probably a better player. I'd be dissapointed to see Coates go so soon though. Suarez will be to.

From twitter and such like, I gather than Lucas, Suarez and Coates are all close friends and regularly meet up. I think that is important and you take away one of the trio, you also take away the happiness of a player. Despite that, I still think Suarez will be gone in the summer.

He signed a new long term contract in the summer... He seems very happy here and the only reason he'd be off is if we finish mid table and a big club come calling (and I mean someone like Madrid/Barca) and even then it'll take a huge offer to even contemplate it. We'd have no reason to sell unless it was cirva £50m of which we can replace and add to the squad.

I agree, but I can see Barca coming in with a £45m type bid. He would be immense there

Stick Villa in with that offer and would soften the blow slightly.
