Those who recall the odd posts I record on here will know that I'm not a member of the Tom Cairney fan club. I went to yesterdays game with the view that this game was set up for our 'wonder' boy to shine.. Well he didn't.. He didn't control the midfield, spray beautiful, intelligence passes around, boss this team of lower league hoofers.. He was really really average, gave the ball away, lost possession, couldn't tackle, head the ball or create chances.. Oli looked better, much better.. Don't bother using the cross which Nick scored from as the 'get out of gaol' card, or the fact that most of his colleagues were not at the races, it was his chance to convince us doubters. If Mr Bruce farmed him out to S****horpe he'd have my full support. As for Simpson, get rid....15 Games no goals, always facing the wrong ****ing direction, can't even control the ball..
Oh you really need to take those 'local lad' blinkers off fella's he's soooooooooo over rated. Ever read the Emporer's new cloths?
I've seen tom cairney play well on a number of occasions and know full well what type n quality he is. he's not an unknown and is allowed a poor performance in a cup game when he probably lacks match fitness and is a part of an 11 that hadn't really played together competitively.
Cairney looked good back in the premiership but other then that he's never looked up to much to me. As for Oli, every game I've seen him in recently he'll play the odd awesome ball but lose the ball constantly. Both of them are heavily over rated and we should get shot at the first decent opportunity in my opinion.
the full midfield yesterday was just one paced, and unfortunately that pace was less then slow. the difference between them and the recent midfield 3, and there energy and movement was chalk and cheese..
No taxi for tom. Even if he isnt gods gift to football he is clearly good enough to make our bench. I really dislike Simpson, but same goes with him. No taxi for Simpson unless we can put someone on the bench or on the field who is better than him.
I agree with that, but i think if Evans had played as one of the three yesterday he would have been just as poor. Oli, Cairney and Mckenna all play the same position, as does Evans. Mckenna was so uncomfortable it was embarassing watching him try and push forward, he cant do it. There was no one for any of them to pass to out wide either. Rosy was poor, Stewart shocking and Daws poor also. Cairney wasnt anywhere near as bad as, in order, Stewart, Mckenna, Rosy, Daws, Simmo, Prozzy, Oli.
Agree with dj that there was no energy but when you looked at that midfield on paper that was always going to be the case. They're all holding midfielders, not one of them is known for getting forward so we shouldn't be surprised that not one of them did. That said I thought Cairney was man of the match for us. He kept the ball pretty much every time he touched it, he got an assist, he put some good corners in and he got stuck in which he's always criticised for not doing, but he's actually been doing for ages. If he's gonna be in the team though you need someone like Quinn or Meyler to complement him by playing at a faster tempo. I thought Oli was nowhere near as good. His hollywood passes always looked good but went to the opposition and off the ball he's just non-existant, people walk right past him. The only thing he's good for is holding onto the ball under pressure. Thought McKenna was average, ran about well but didn't achieve much and wasn't great on the ball. Cairney is quickly becoming our most under-rated player IMO.
yawn - how could you expect anyone to play well yesterday when we effectively had only 7 or 8 making any contribution - Stewart was totally off the pace - Dawson was a complete liability playing at least 2 suicide back passes to Jack-off and constantly out of position and woefully slow. McKenna had a very poor game for him and Prossie just isn't a championship player so its no wonder that the rest of the team struggled
I'm finding myself agreeing with you far too much lately Chazz. In this system the wide men have a lot of responsibility and if they aren't showing anything what are the middle 3 meant to do against 11 defenders? I think we too often that forget that in modern football the whole team defends and if they are half decent at it it's really hard to break them down, not like decades ago when you played with a front 5 and none of this men behind the ball nonsense. With that in mind you sometimes have to accept that you won't easily create loads of chances, if the midfield are keeping the ball but creating nothing it's probably a width issue or a lack of movement up front.
Ha, ye was nearly identical post. Did you pick up on the fact Simmo and Prozzy really didnt seem to like each other? There was a moment in the second half were they passed to each other but it was you lay me in on goal no you lay me and Prozzy just shot skywards.
1 in 4 times after he had possession it ended up back with the opposition. I kept a running count. As for his corners, only one was met by one of our players. His vision was shocking, Dawson was out on the wing in acres of space and he either passed it short or backwards when Daw's was shouting for the ball. Cairney even managed to make Daws look bad.
Can't say I noticed that no but Prossy always warms up on his own as if no one likes him. Mind you he did come to Andy Dawson's launch night with a few of the lads so they must speak to him at least
Dawson looks bad cos he is bad - at least you noticed that no-one in the team passes to Daws unless they really have to - theres a reason for that - he ****s it up
