When Wenger sees Van Persie scoring for fun, every goal must be like a dagger in the heart for him. Have to say the goal he scored at West Ham yesterday truly was a sublime effort...
Yep, as footie fans, you have to say that was a great goal. Strangely reminiscent of that Bergkamp goal from maybe about 12 years ago?? Which was better? Probably the Bergkamp one I think.
Van Basten - Bergkamp - van Persie. How do the Dutch do it? Are there any British players who scored not only as many goals, but as many great goals, as these three over the last 25 years?Lineker (no great goals), Shearer and Sir Les come closest for me, but with respect none anywhere near as good as them Dutchies.
Mate Nistelrooy had some pretty pretty superb goals in spite being a poacher, Kuyt is rubbish, also Zenden
Gullit aside, none of those are in the same league as van Basten, Bergkamp and van Persie, though van Nistelroy pretty close. I saw Gullit playing alongside van Basten and Rijkaard at AC Milan. Great, great player but not an out and out goal scorer like the others. Van Hooijdonk - never delivered on the promise. Zenden???? Kuyt FFS, you're taking the piss. I've loved Dutch football since the Ajax of the seventies, which influenced QPR hugely at the time. All down to Jack Reynolds of course.
Bergkamp's was the more skillful in that he killed the long ball and then flicked it back to flat-foot the defender and then caressed it past the keeper from an angle, against Leicester if I remember rightly. It was no fluke because the following year he did an almost carbon-copy in the World Cup Quarter-Final against Argentina. He truly was the complete footballer...
I know this goal, but i'm not sure are we talking about same thing
Was just naming the Dutch forwards names that played in the EPL, but if we are going to talk Europe wide: Kluivert, Huntelaar, Bosman, Makaaij, Rijkaard, Kieft and of course Cruijff.
Kluivert, naturally Cruyff, Neeskens and my personal favourite Johnny Rep.....you've had some geniuses. Rijkaard a forward??? Are you really Dutch?
He started his career as a forward, but later on was moved to the back. Did play regularly in a forward position when needed, he's of that generation that could play any position on the field. Here's his best action in the penalty area by the way:
