But values are a different thing from faith. No one is challenging people's value system, regardless of where it came from. If someone believe they shouldn't covet thou neighbour's ass then that's fine.

    Again, it's a different thing.

Probably not but that still doesn't mean their claim that a higher existence exists shouldn't be challenged.

Why do you have such a problem with people questioning the existence of something of which there is no proof? It seems entirely logical that it should be challenged.

Ok, why do you want to challenge it?

Some religious people's values are defined by their religion. See Mother Theresa.

That's true, you could also have used the Spanish Inquisition as an example, that however does not prove that it is the religion which is always to blame for personal values.

Because I have a problem with people claiming that something exists when there is no evidence to back up their claims.

Logic is taking a serious battering if people honestly think that such a claim should not be questioned and scrutinised. If someone came to you and said they believed that there was a winged horse living in the woods nearby you would just accept it?

I know, that's why I said "No one is challenging people's value system, regardless of where it came from."

It's still a different thing though.

    Never sen the edit.

As Reb says why should it be challenged? Who is it harming and what benefit will be gained by challenging religion?

I have no problem with people questioning the existence of God whatsoever, however calling someone names for their belief is not "questioning" the existence of God.

I did use the Inquisition.
I didn't claim that religion is always to blame for personal values, but a lot of people accept dubious values from others when they're either part of someone's faith or they've interpreted it to be that way.

You can argue against somebody's personal opinion on an issue, but you can't do so when they fall back on faith.
You sig is a perfectly accurate description of why.

I've explained above why it should be challenged. And I haven't called anyone names but I suppose it's a bit like calling rival football fans huns I guess.

Anyway, I'm off to prepare lunch. I'll leave you mad God botherers, atheists and middle-of-the-road, Lib Dem voting agnostics to it.

UFOs, Life after Death experiences, Alien Abductions?

No one can prove these either but I don't have a problem with people who've seen a UFO.

So you would just blindly accept their claims without questioning them? I bet you wouldn't.

    Laters.

Of course I wouldn't, I certainly would not belittle them because I don't believe them.

Mind you when it comes to 9/11 Truthers that's a different matter entirely <whistle>

You would if they also based a dubious moral system around the encounter and then tried to impose it upon you, though.

No one has ever tried to impose their religion on me. None of them would want me.

The people who are discussing this topic on here do not claim God exists. They are saying that they believe he does. There is a difference.

i would argue that it is illogical to continue to press folk to provide evidence of something when it is clear they have no interest at all in using evidence to support their position.
