Cortese has already stated that we will not be relegated under his leadership. You sayin' his words were hollow?

Not in the slightest.

But I also don't think that he's a complete and utter idiot. He must know that ultimately whether we stay up or go down is not in his hands, and right this moment there is a relative chance that we will go down.

At the forefront of his mind, he's probably 100% focused on the PL. Both surviving this season, and then pushing on up next season. But I'd be amazed if the possibility of relegation isn't stored in the back of his mind somewhere - and so, for example, if someone comes in with a par bid for Richardson, I could see that light in the back of his mind going off, and him saying "no thanks, we might just need him in 6 months time".

Think he took a bit of stick in the early games. They all needed to adjust but perhaps he was shown up the most against City et al.

Southampton are looking to seal thetransfer of Davide Astori, reports in Italy claim.

The 25-year-old seems set to leave the Sardinian side after they admitted they are in dire financial trouble.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Premier League club have offered €10 million for the central defender, but Cagliari are looking for €12 million.
Astori is said to have already agreed terms with the Saints, so once a fee is agreed the player is likely to make the move.

Not just him though...the step up from Championship to playing the top sides in the PL is massive. The whole team is defensive minded now, which has helped the back four. Cork commented on the help he got from Puncheon in the Arsenal game. Jos's confidence will come back after a few decent games under his belt. If Fonte can step up, so can Jos. Have to be positive because he is the best option we have.

Would believe that more if we hadn't already been through the Gaston saga. Sounds positive...I expect NC is searching down the back of his sofa as we speak and wondering if the Cagliari Chairman will accept £8,000,000 plus £1.45, a teaspoon and a sock.

True Fran. I was a massive fan last year and he hasn't become a bad player. Villa are quite speedy though so that worries me. You are right though options are limited unless the cavalry arrives!

Yeah Davide isn't part owned and we have already offered pretty close to what they want.

Has there been abuse aimed at Jos? The defensive play is better throughout the team now, I'm sure he can step in if he has to.

As he did against Stoke, and i am sure he would do so again against AV on Saturday. Nobody got on Jos's back at Stoke, before, during or after the game.
