I go to Saints games on my own and have done so for years and I cannot think of any serious unpleasantness that I have witnessed in the Kingsland. The Northam fans do the chanting and a few songs are not pleasant, but most seem good humoured. There may be trouble elsewhere that I am unaware of, but I bet we are amongst some of the best behaved fans.
In some peoples eyes, being a decent loyal supporter is somehow wimpish, to be hard you have got to cause a bit of a rucks up. I have always noticed that the ones that stir things up, always seem to disappear when things kick off, funny that.
Want to bet SFC are likely to face an FA board of enquiry and be found guilty of failure to control the conduct of fans inside the stadium!!
Always amuses me when a few on here insult their own fans in such terms, indicating that most should be treated with contempt. Presumably those doing this gross-generalisation are by their own estimation, way beyond the wit and wisdom of the rest of us, and are therefore "special". I have been coming to St Mary's since it opened and there is a cross section of society which is actually pretty decent. Amongst them are those who have had a drink too many, whose language is a bit colourful and who think that they know more about football than the manager who got us promoted from the foot of L1 to the Premiership. Not unlike some on this board, really. Could these be the same people? I have never heard racism personally (not saying it doesn't happen), nor have I seen violence or even fisticuffs between fans. I like my fellow fans. You are alright, you lot.
I think Saints fans are a good bunch and I'm proud to be one of them. Passion and drink can produce the odd poor behaviour, but generally behaviour is excellent. In his interview, Gaston remarked how different it was to have fans so close and not fenced off as in Italy. Don't worry, Gaston, you are more likely to be slobbered than clobbered.
I think someone needs to tell Mr Nice and Pieking that this forum may contain football fans. If they're allergic to them then they need to get on the Guardian Reader's Forum immediately before they go into shock.
Good post Channon. There are a couple of self righteous posters on here who seem to think that most of us are below them in society - bottom feeders i believe they call us - but most poeple on here reflect Saints fans as a whole, pretty normal people who support their local team.
please log in to view this image I've been to watch many, many sports live. Football fans are easily the worst behaved.
