Lad, you're deluded. Chelsea are a bigger club than us - - hugely, massively, unquestionably more important. Chelsea matter in world football. we're an occassional sideshow in the prem.

Ba is telling the truth. If it hurts, that's not his fault.

I'm talking about the present day, in which we live. Chelsea matter, we don't.

10 years ago, and 50 years agonb, the situation was reversed. Today, however, Chelsea are one of the most important clubs in the world, while we are one of the less important clubs in the pre, As is Liverpool, incidentally

...yet their fans seem to have some divine intitlement to being a 'big' club if you ask them...maybe they should look at leeds before they harp on about how they were once big so always will be

<laugh> You were in the champ only a couple of seasons ago while Liverpool being such a small club reached two champs league finals winning one of them. When did you lot last win any trophy of note?

not the point i wasn't claiming we were any bigger than you but as football stands at the moment neither of our teams can be considered 'big' any more yet some fans think it's their right to be given that status on past merits

Were we considered a big club in 1995? 1996? Bigger than Chelsea? Yes we were, but why? we'd won nowt and chelsea had won trophies recently then too.

Were blackburn bigger than Man Utd when they won the league?

Being a big club isn't about what you've just won - it's about history, fan base, tradition, attendances - regardless of how much money you've got and what wages you can pay, Newcastle are as big as Chelsea. Less successful and probably always will be, but in terms of away support, fan fervour, tradition, heritage - we're massive.

My initial point was that Ba could have had more class. chelsea is a step up right now purely because they're in a better position to win silverware - without the injuries this year we could well have been in the top 4. It would have stuck in Newcastle throats a lot more if we'd been top 4 on Jan 1st and Ba left for chelsea, that's for sure.

I think the point people are missing is, the only relevant discussion is how clubs are viewed by players when considering transfers. That is what Ba is commenting on and telling the truth about.

I think anyone upset or irritated by Ba's honest stance needs to wake up a little to modern-day footballers.

If they are English/British they are more likely to have a consideration for what they're saying after a transfer - this guy is French/Senegalese and doesn't care one bit for anything other than playing at the 'biggest name' club he possibly can.

Chelsea are a free-spending, trophy winning club who are looking to continue to win things.

I think it's fair to say that Newcastle United do not share that description.

Modern footballers will provide plenty of lip service for the awaiting fans as they join a new club, but who honestly believes that they care something for the area?

It's a rare thing if they do in my opinion - especially the foreign imports. <ok>

It doesn't matter if a certain club was bigger/more successful in the past than another. All that matters is the here and now.

He is furthering his career. Its not like hes going to play in the desert, or go to Villa.

perhaps we should use the word "im;ortant" rather than "big". Big seems to mean whatever the person using it wants it to mean. Importance you can to a large degree measure - - how many cljubs are affected by what Newcastle does or fails to do ? The mid range prem clubs.

how many clubs are affected by wha t chelsea does or fails at ? the most important clubs across Europe.

we are an unimportant club. if you want to say we're Big and unimportant, well go ahead, if it makes you feel better

Debuchy wnated out of his club to sign for us, for more money. Is there Lille message boards full of people calling him a c*** too?

They are paid to do a job, if someone is offering more money with greater exposure to advertising/endorsment revenue streams then why shouldn't players take it?

In all walks of life, if somebody was offered more money by another firm/company for doing the same job they were already doing, they'd probably take it.

It's quite understandable and we should all get over it.

Absolutely, he was a good servant for the club, he has moved on and so should we.
