The Marathon Sussex National wa won impressively last season by DOUBLE DIZZY 10-1 and it looks like he has been aimed at a repeat this season. Although off a higher mark tomorrow the manner of victory last season was that impressive that a follow up seems quite likely.
Looking at the prices around tonight the bookies must be taking the piss with the Sussex National - Missions Complete favourite at between 4/1 - 5/1 and the outsider of the 12-runner field, Hodgson, is no bigger than 16/1. Are they having a laugh? The one I like the look of is Gary Moore's Well Refreshed, although he is not one for the faint-hearted. He has won 2 of his last 3 chases (last time over 3 miles on atrociously heavy ground at Lingfield) and the other one he was giving the prolific Pete The Feat a decent race when capsizing 2 out. He was getting 17lbs from Pete The Feat that day but given the Longsden horse is now rated 134, Well Refreshed could be well in here off 114. The 2 provisos being 1) he doesn't fall and 2) he gets the extened trip. 11/2 this evening is a bit skinny though so I'll wait for tomorrow to see what price is available - as I said above, the market is currently very poor value. Elsewhere on the card, I like Kuilsriver in the opener, being sent back over hurdles for a confidence boost and I think he will respond well to that. In the 1.25 I fully expect Vulcanite to confirm superiority over Salden Licht, having beaten him rather snugly last time around. Anything above evens would be a bonus. Not sure whether Ruby Walsh will be fit to ride at Naas tomorrow, but if he is, he looks to have an outstanding chance of a treble in the first 3 races onboard Upazo, Marito and Champagne Fever. If he doesn't ride, the horses may well still win but probably won't make you rich.
Was planning to go to my local track tomorrow. looks a fairly decent card, but am going to my first point to point meeting (larkhill) to see my friends horse race! SWC is riding in the same race and has a few runners tomorrow so will get some pictures and post them on tomorrow!
cheers oddy shame you cant give any tips Thanks again for the Monbeg Dude! that along with your william wishes and Melodic Rendezvous double Plus had a bit on BFT too for old time sakes
No prices for either of my two fancies yet but they are: Lone Ranger 12.55 Plumpton - really interested in this one on debut for Venetia Williams, last ran in a group 1 on the flat where was pulled up and the racing post comment states 'eased with jockey looking down as if something amiss'. Previous to this Lone Ranger had won a listed race beating Gulf of Naples and Thimaar comfortably, both of whom are rated around the 107 mark so are decent flat horses. I think this could be a decent recruit for Venetia and with her yard in form I will be having nice bet. Mr Watson will be a danger as the form of his last race looking even better after today. Vencermos 13.55 Plumpton - last seen contesting a listed bumper which has thrown up a couple of winners, it's the race prior that I'm really interested in. Vencermos beat mischievous Milly and we all know what she did last week (thanks Stick - I know you said MM improved for seeing some hurdles but I'm hoping my selection might as well), debut over hurdles tomorrow and upped in trip, I think this one will go really well. Looking forward to seeing the prices tomorrow but will likely be having two singles and a double. I could be on completely the wrong track with these two (wouldn't be the first time) but we will see.
Interesting stuff on this thread, I had already backed Petitfour and old Double Dizzy for tomorrow before logging on. I had those two as overpriced and at 13/2 and 8/1 respectively I thought a bit of dutching was the way to go. Now I read that two forum stalwarts put them up, confidence is high.
I tipped VENCEREMOSS for that Irish bumper ouija because I knew how highly regarded MISCHIEVOUS MILLY was. I am not sure though that the Longsdon horse has as much scope as MM and my other concern is that the Irish bumper isnt working out that brilliantly.
haven t had a punt for a while but salden licht looks good against the favoutite in the 1.25 at plumpton.alan king opined after the race that the second wouldn t be beaten by the winner again..mc coy agreed on atr yet cl runs sgainst sl again....very interesting however 11/10 saldon will do me...felices reyes a todos.
I'm on too, Alan King has a 37% strike rate at Plumpton, Salden Licht his only runner tomorrow, fancy him to reverse the form on better terms with Vulcanite
EW Lucky 15 on a few outsiders; 3:05 Naas Imperial Shabra 11/1 4:20 Wolves Shawkantango 25/1 4:50 Wolves Vhujon 10/1 5:20 Wolves Blue Noodles 14/1 Brunettes Only and Qualviro my two picks for Sussex National
"I've never had him better and if he runs like he did at Cheltenham he'll take a lot of catching, but he has his own mind. He's in great form and will thrive on the ground," Bob Buckler who runs Double Dizzy at Plumpton today. (2 hours ago)
Naas 2.05 Ros Brin 7/1 2.35 Maes Choice 10/3 I wouldnt normally look at Plumpton but I would have to be with Salden Licht to turn the form round, and I might have a small dabble on Mission Complete in the national. Also a little e/w saver on A Country Girl 14/1 in the mares chase, she could be quite smart, might be asking a bit much to win this first time over fences but I can see her running a big race. Main bet is Inter 6/4 at Udinese, they were very unlucky not to beat Lazio away, and again at home to Genoa last time they really should have won the game. I think Udinese are a shadow of the team they were in the last two seasons and I expect Inter to get back on track today, wont be easy but they have the quality.
