... Taunting other fans that don't have season tickets, acting all superior toward their fellow Saints fans: How about you shut the f*ck up? People have differing reasons for not being able to afford a season ticket, such as distance from St Mary's, income, family, work, redundancy, etc etc. Does it make you a better fan simply because you can afford a season ticket?!? No. I'm sure there would be plenty more people coming that currently can't if they weren't being held back by circumstance. Rant over. EDIT: I'd accept these people's views if they targeted people that have enough money yet only go to certain games because they cannot be arced with the others. But they were simply generalising with their songs and didnt think about what they were doing.
The sense of superiority shown by some fans recently is unpleasant to say the least. We are all Saints fans, but don't all have the time or money to attend every game. Bullying your own fans is unheard of and should not be tolerated.
It makes them a better fan IF you simply decided to go to just that game and others like Man United....please tell me that's not the case?
Of course, you're right there Lambden. I've been to about 18 home games + one away but I'm skint because of it. I'd go to more if I could. I'll add your view in too.
Yeh that's fair enough. Though some have their reasons, others simply don't (these aren't true fans).
I am very puzzled as to why people are getting so wound up about it, Fans, go as and when, and because they can, they don't go when they can't, who appointed these taunters as judge and jury on what other supporters do? I had reason to miss two home games all season, Plymouth and Manchester United, do you think I wanted to miss either of them? Am I a bad fan because I couldn't make them? As a result of the recent success, there are new fans getting involved, old fans coming back, and others making more effort to get there, are they bad fans because they haven't been with us all season? I think not. Where did this taunting occur? Jdub are you saying that you couldn't get a ticket yourself and it has upset you? How does that make you any different from any other Saints fan? Your enthusiasm would say that you are on a par with everyone else, even if you have to support from afar for what ever reason, so be it. St_Lambden are you really saying you hate people that don't come to St.Marys? Why? To me that is irrational thinking. I may miss more games next Season because I may not be able to afford to renew my ST if its price increase is too much, I retire in September 2012 and there will little chance of finding enough to pay for it then. If that is the case, I will have to be selective and you can guess which games I will pick to attend.
A fan is a fan, why discourage anyone from coming to watch our wonderful club. They would be complaining if only 20,000 thousand turned up to the big games so I don't see their problem. More fans equals a HUGLEY better atmoshpere, simple as.
Errr, isn't this just jdub's account of songs that no one else so far heard? Could be that he's just over sensitive or exaggerating.
Really? You hate them? I forgot that it was the law that if you're free, available, and have the money, then you HAVE to attend to be classed as a real fan.
1st post here. Good thread JDub. I'm a massive saints fan! Why? Well I was born in Southampton, love football, had every saints strip for god knows how many years and attended many games over the years. I have only been to 1 game in the past 3 years and never had a season ticket. I go to games when I have the dollar and the spare time. You see, I've played football on Saturday's for the past 15 years because I love football, not because I can't be bothered to watch the saints. I also got made redundant two year ago and had to move to Bristol (my current base) but I still get on the lash and start singing oh when the saints on my own in the corner of the pubs here. If I want to buy a ticket to watch saints Pompey next year that is my perogative. To hear any fellow saints fan say they are a better supporter than me is rediculous. Your either a fan or your not. Simples. I have loads of friends with similar situations to me. All saints through and through! Were all equal and whoever disagrees is either 7 years old or has a pretty sad life to make such ridiculous claims! Sorry for rant. Love x
ER I'm abit confused.......We start off by talking about fans that only turn up for the special matches and end up talking about songs? Mmmm don't know too much about songs so I guess I 'll talk about special day fans. Since football began to become popular you have always had the fan that will turn up to watch you play the bigger more glamorous teams. It's human nature to want to do that. They will have the same as we, fans spread around the country who support their team of choice even though they cannot get to see them. However if their favorite team suddenly plays near them, but they don't necessary support the team they are playing they will go along to see them anyway. I don't know what our average gate was this year but lets say it is around 21500. I wouldn't not mind laying a bet we will average maybe 22/22500 next season. where were those extra fans this season. are they the fans that people were/are criticising? OK then another example.......in there darkest hour of need Saints gates went down to 11/12000. Now how many of you complaining fans were tending in those dark days? How many of you will admit that you didn't attend and are criticising the special match people? I wouldn't mind betting there are a few. None of you really know why the guy next to you was not at last weeks match or the week before that or before that. You do not know his circumstances he may look well cared for, have you though he may not have the bus fare to get home, so he has to walk. So stop being so judgemental, you are making assumptions with little or no evidence. Just be glad that they swelled the gate that day as it gives the club a bit more money to spend on the players that you actually see week in week out, who they only see on the odd occasion.
I have no problem with fans getting to games they can go to, however minimal they are due to practical reasons such as work/money issues but I ONLY have issues with the people that complain about these problems all year, yet when the Man United and Walsall games come about, they forget about all that and make a special effort to go to these 'big occasions'. Go when you can not when the game has an implication or is a big draw in the Cup, because when people do fill up the ground it's magical. I agree that a lot of people cannot go but an extra 10,000 people turning up from one game to the next then disappearing again ......you get my jist by now I'm sure. Nothing personal against any specific person btw.
Bunch of goons who do that. I remember a game last season when everyone started waving their season tickets about, I've never been so embarrassed for being a Saints fan as then.
I follow what you're saying, I just don't agree with it. For example I have a mate who is a Saints fan, who I don't think has been to a league game since the Derby play-off semi's. Since then, I'm pretty sure the only games that he has been to were the big cup games against United (twice) and Pompey. Now he can afford to go, and he doesn't work every single Saturday so that too isn't a regular "excuse" for him. But he does other things. He goes to the gym, he takes his girlfriend away on breaks, he goes house-hunting, he does the gardening. He can follow Saints, and support Saints, thanks to Radio Solent, the FL show, the BBC website, the official website, Twitter etc etc etc. He doesn't need to actually attend the matches. Now do I think he is any less of a fan than me? No, of course not. Yes, I probably do have a better opinion on our players, style of play etc than he does, but I absoloutely do not think that I am a better fan than him. It's his choice to do other things with his Saturdays than going to St Marys, so it's hardly surprising that the odd occasion that he does go he chooses the big games.
It makes no difference if your a season ticket holder or not, you are all paying supporters for the team you love
Ohh I seen red when a couple of fans started waving their season tickets in the air. I should of pulled out my return flight booking confirmation, my hotel booking confirmation, my match tickets as well as my car rental confirmation and started waving those around because it costs me more to get to one game then your season ticket costs! HEY A55HOLE! Just because you're lucky enough to see the Saints play week in week out, it doesn't make you a better fan or any of that bollocks. Different people have different circumstances.. Deal with it! Just sayin'.
To be honest I have never seen anyone waving their season ticket about and have to say am a bit puzzled as to why they would do that. I can understand that making people angry it certainly would me. What the hells that all about?? If that is /has happened it is no wonder you are angry. There has to be some logical explanation other that they are bragging because they have season tickets and others haven't surely????????? Personally I think that is outrageous.
I haven't been to one game this season due to not being able to afford it or not being available to go. I only went to two games the season before. I use to be a season ticket holder back in the day. But I can't anymore. Does that make me a bad fan?
