Juventus would never have anything to do with that sort of thing ...

Lots of reports linking him to Juve (who appear to be the favourites over Arsenal and Spurs). He's an outstanding big striker and the proposed deal would make him the highest paid player in Serie A.

However, the deal looked to be for when his contract ends in the Summer but recent "bust-ups" with the Athletic coach mean he might be moving in this transfer window.

However, I'm sure Bilbao played in Europe already this season so, even if he joins this month, I think the big man is cup-tied and can't play against us.

    I hope I'm right <gulp>

Otherwise, I don't see us handling him.

    Good OP there, Bib <applause>

I'm not sure if competing in the Europa cup-ties you for the CL.

You would certainly think so - here's hoping. He's a great player.

Brilliant OP, by the way <applause>

    Does it matter?

Were up against it anyway. It's hard to see what weaknesses they've got.

Cheating **** could join cheating ****s.

DROGBA IN THE CROSSHAIRS OF JUVE - Didier Drogba is confirmed in the top of the dreams of Juventus. The former Chelsea striker met yesterday in France his entourage to take stock of the situation in key future. The meeting revealed a certain fact: it will take some time before it emerges the truth about his next destination. They remain to unravel some of the red tape with the Shanghai Shenhua before you can give answers to suitors. Including Juventus. But Juve waiting patiently. For two reasons. First, because Marotta knows that with Drogba Juventus add a value added attack, especially in optical Champions League. Secondly because Juve before he is without Bendtner, out of action for three months, and looks with fear at the physical condition of Vucinic, struggling with an ankle tendon problem that does not let him sleep soundly. So Juventus is ready to offer Didier Drogba a contract for a year and a half. And wait for the right moment to launch the attack all'ivoriano

Dev (when you can't help yourself and take a wee peep) you will realise if you were
Half as smart as you think you are you would have seen it was in fact an idiot of a
Rebel bhoy who had written it. I feel totally insulted by your misinterpretation

[h=1] Michel Platini in move to win over Celtic fans after Champions League slur
[/h] 5 Jan 2013 00:01 UEFA have moved to distance Platini from the interview with an Italian newspaper in which he is reported to have belittled Celtic's chances against Juventus.

UEFA chief Michel Platini last night extended the hand of friendship to Celtic over the Juventus slur storm. (Slur? There was me thinking it was only his opinion, which he is entitled to and what "Storm" did he cause? I don't recall any storm)

European football’s biggest hitter sparked outrage among Hoops supporters (Outrage? Like a "Storm of outrage?) when the former Juve star was quoted as dismissing Neil Lennon’s chances in the Champions League last-16 showdown next month. But UEFA have taken steps to distance themselves from the interview with an Italian journalist. They insist president Platini is mortified at the thought of offending Scotland’s champions. (who did they "Insist" to?)

A UEFA spokesman said: “At no point would the president suggest Juventus had qualified for the last eight because they’d been drawn against Celtic. “The president said Juventus were fortunate to have avoided getting involved in one of the big-name ties, such as Milan versus Barcelona or Manchester United versus Real Madrid.

“He has led the reform of the competition for the inclusion of more domestic league champions and initiatives such as this are vindicated when Scotland’s title winners are seen to be competing at the highest level, as their performances against Barcelona have proven in this season’s group stages.”

Platini had been considering visiting Celtic Park before the end of the season to take in a match but fears of a hot reception could now scupper the trip. (Platini fears a hot reception at Parkhead, maybe that could be another story in itself in a few weeks, although how exactly Platini's fears were voiced is not exactly clear, seems like Hugh has a direct line to Platini)

Celtic had made no comment on Platini’s interview with Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport which came after the club’s chief executive Peter Lawwell had attended the Champions League draw in Switzerland. He had been quoted as saying: “After being drawn against Celtic we can already consider Juve to be in the quarter-finals. “Juventus will count themselves very fortunate.”

(Celtic made no comment because the "opinion" of Michel Platini is not a slur, it's an "opinion", and only then if it is actually true and not made up like the rest of this non story)
