Only did this once...away at Wolves a long time ago. i opened my mouth and the stewards grabbed me. Marched me round the pitch and threw me into the QPR section just in time to see Danny Dichio's wonder goal Right Result !! Scary night though at the new Molineux !!
Couple of times Luton away, no away fans (in theory!) when sir Les scored his break away last minute winner. Brilliant, went mental as did all the other rangers realising there were quite a few of us! Old Trafford this year, nearly broke my seat when we scored but generally a naff experience due to the pathetic atmosphere.
I was a OT quite a few years back bradley Allen I think scored first, forgot myself and cheered, worst abuse was from my brother, "if it kicks off you're on your own ****er" to be fair, some banter from the " locals" but nothing too bad, they won 2-1 so took some good humoured stick. Fair play to them. At Arse nil two years ago one of their supporters referred to the lino as a touch judge, couldn't stop laughing but again no trouble glad to say.
1970s, Villa away in the cup. My dad and I were visiting family in Birmingham and decided at the last minute that we would see if we could get into the game. Ended up sitting right in the middle of the home fans. Villa were great and all over us, but each time they scored we somehow managed to get a goal back. We even remembered to get to our feet each time Villa scored. 3 -2 with a few minutes to go. Rangers score. We forgot ourselves and lept into the air screaming. It was then that we suddenly had that moment when you realise just what you have done. Look down, look left, look right, daren't look behind. We were the only two standing in ther middle of a couple of thousand brummies who were sitting, fed up and all looking straight at us. Time to sit down - very quickly. Game finished 3 - 3. The Villa fans immediately around us were very good about it and didn't cause us any bother. I think in the end they found it quite funny. I think they saw the look of terror in our faces when we realized what we had done. Had we scored a winner I don't think that they would have been quite so generous. From the moment we sat down after the goal to the moment we drove away in the car I was sh!t scared. We were convinced someone would come after us. (Villa won the replay at LR.)
Been in the middle of Palace fans at the Holmesdale End back in the early 90s, we won 3-0, I think we had Wilkins and Reid together in midfield, I still celebrated with the three mates I was with, there were quite a few other Rs in that end of the ground celebrating as well but the stand was half-empty in the last ten minutes. My wife and all her family are Millwall and I was invited to the New Den two years ago but declined their kind offer, we lost 2-0. Strange thing is I now live about 200 yards from the Holmesdale Stand at the Palace and can see the top of it from my front door...
Unable to get a ticket in the away end for our promotion match at Sheffield Wednesday 2003/4, I managed to get a ticket for the home end......right behind the Wednesday dug out Absolute agony that day with the Wednesday supporters cheering as news came through about Bristol City winning 2-0 (and therefore moving into the second auto promotion spot) Couldn't help celebrating at the final whistle much to the annoyance of the Wednesday fans around me Amazing Rangers support that day - some 7,500 if memory serves
Correct. A never to be repeated experience. I have a friend who is a Luton fan so feel for him re their plight but can't say I am that sorry in truth.
not one for excuses, too much mulled ginger wine for someone who don't drink that much very often and it was doing my block in trying to read it too much info in 8 lines. Bit strong from me sorry pal
Ive just re read your post and the bit about the fan losing his life didn't even register at the time. Sorry again everyone.
I did luton twice, both times on my own and once we scored. I shouted something very professional like "good goal, good goal" and got into a proper conversation with the fan next to me about the merits of the goal, furiously backtracking unless my allegiance was discovered. I have been to Fulham and celebrated along with the other 50 odd Rss fans scattered around the home seating area...nothing happened! And many moons ago I went to Norwich with a mate and a) it was 0-0 and b) it was foggy and I couldn't really see anything...so nothing happened there at all!
