Ryan Babels biggest problem was Torres and his inability at club level to play alongside another striker.Torres only knew one way,he was the same at Athletico Madrid. This may sound like hindsight,it is hindsight, but imagine Ryan Babel with Suarez behind him.Dirk Kuyt who lets be fair is slower than a week in jail is thriving off the service Suarez provides. If Babel spent more time putting in the graft in training instead of mouthing off on twitter,He would still be a liverpool player.
Na. Ryan Babbel's problem is Ryan Babbel. He never earnt his place in the team and never did anything when I watched him. He believed he should be in the first team rather than feeling the need to prove it in training (Twitter). I don't believe he didn't succeed because he didnt have a good run in the team. You have to earn that and take your chances when you come on as a sub. He didn't and that speaks volumes for his attitude. All that time Torres was out and Ngog got ahead of him. Never as good as people thought/think he is, and would not excel in this team. He need comited people who work hard, and he isn't one of them. Relieved when we flogged him for a tenner.
B4F. How would you like it if you were a young kid who was naturally right footed and was shunted out to the left wing when you are a natural central forward. Before you mention Dirk Kuyt, there is a difference.Dirk Kuyt had lost a yard of pace, and his energy at the time was best served out wide. The reason why he's thriving up front is more down to the skill and movement and exuberance of Luis Suarez more than anything.
I don't happen to think playing on the left wing for Liverpool is anything to complain about, and that's not because I'm a fan. Glen Johnson has put a shift in at left back, Dirk Kuyt right wing, and Jay Spearing has been on the fringes for months without complaint and took his chance. Lucas Leiva was converted from an attacking player to a defensive midfielder and his attitude has been flawless. None of these players ranted at the manager on Twitter. It was clear for all to see the way Babel went missing in some games and didn't always track back as much as he should have. Suarez shows how a forward player can still work hard for the team. He also provided little threat through intelligence of movement (his threat was almost exclusively pace and a powerful shot) which means he doesn't open up space for team mates, is a one-dimensional threat to defences and is more difficult to involve in play. Babel looked to have so much potential because he developed faster than his peers so his power and pace were more effective. When he came to a league where that's the minimum entry requirement he just wasn't that special. I wish him every success and will always have a soft spot for the joker, but 1 goal since he moved to Hoffenheim in 14 games having had over 30 shots only confirms to me it was time for him to go.
I am sure there is an extensive list of good players that took time to settle and provided the goods. It was already not looing good for him with Torres Kuyt n co, sometimes things just don't go right and a player doesn't live up to the potential they have. Henry was pretty average at Juve. Lucas would no way be the player he is right now if he hadn't been played time and time again, you cannot beat match day experience regardless of how much you train. Lucas was played no matter how badly he performed, what was Babels longest run in the team in starting 11 compared to Lucas up till Babel left? I reckon Lucas got far more games and far more consecutive inclusions too, but I can't be positive of course as I am too lazy to go hunting. A lot of Babels games were also in a misfiring team, even Shelvey looks afar better playing in a confident team and I reckon Babel would have got a goal if he was playing last night, 35 yards against Chelsea in the CL, was a cracker by auld Ryan, I do honestly think he never got a fair crack at the whip
