His agent Marcos Paulo Riberio has discussed suitors for the Twente defender:

“So far we have not had contact with Inter. And according to our knowledge there has not been an offer. The same applies to Reading.

Newcastle? We begun discussions with them in the last transfer window, but there are no negotiations now.

Three Bundesliga clubs want him and we have already rejected a formal proposal.

Now we have to wait. Douglas is focused on Twente and he is a player who has always done well for the team.”

Let's hope we enter the race for him soon, if we still want him that is.

The fact that he's still focused on Twente is a good sign, because it shows how committed he can be to a club he's signed for.

Hopefully we'll get this one wrapped up in the next couple of weeks.

We can only begin negotiations with a player with his club's permission, can't we ?

Not having spoken to Douglas just means we haven't reached a deal with his club for him yet. We got to speak to him last window because a deal was agreed but then unravelled.

Okay, I'm going to lay it out for you, Dutch transfer news policy for agents:

First report: no interest, there are some parties elsewhere, we got a first offer rejected it, but the player is still committed for this season.
Second report: There is interest but no meetings have been scheduled, the player would love to play at the club but wishes to remain at the club.
Third report: A bid has been declined by Twente, we are upset because it was a good deal, the player is now in distress and doesn't want to stay at the club anymore.
Fourth report: yay we got a deal, sorry for the former club but we move on, tataa

This routine happens around 8 to 9 times a year.

Sometimes best to keep your cards close to your chest and not alert other teams to your interests.

I heard he's slipped down our list due to his really poor form this season? Could be wrong.

Cove reckons he's really picked up of late and they have the best defence in the league. Become a bit of a leader by all accounts

I hope that's true because one of my main concerns regarding Douglas was his indiscipline and hot headed temper. We already have Tiote and don't need another player who is constantly suspended and red carded. That said Tiote is a passionate player, whereas previous reports suggested that Douglas was more of a diva.
Guess we will just have to wait and see, in more ways than one.
