All the same, this made me visit some web sites and lots and lots of great memories kicked in - just one was catching a 3lb flatty in Railway Dock (circa, 1966) jumping on my bike (knee-knocking Raliegh RSW 16 - heavy as hell, but great rear rack for fishing box!) belting down Hessle Rd so me Grandad could have it for his tea. Then what fleet was left (mainly J. Marr & Boyd Line) moved to Albert Dock in the late 1970's. Steep decline followed and the last containerised fish landed on Hull market was summer 2011. The last wet fish trawler to land was probably the Stigandi - an Icelandic vessel. How ironic. Hull Fish Market R.I.P.
The mate I go to city with was looking at buying the Edwin Davis building to devlop, but I think he gave up on the idea(I'll ask him tomorrow). Hopefully something like this comes about. It would not only be great for the City and area but for the football club as well. If Hull City make it back to the PL we would be in a prime position to offer package cruise/match deals for Northern European folk who want to watch some PL football. I've always thought as a club we should interact more with the Netherlands ect to increase our fan base. Lets have some yearly alternate friendlies home and away with Dutch clubs, loan some young 'uns over there and vice versa, take some on trail, youth team tours ect. It would be great in expand our fan base and maybe become a second (english) club to Dutch football fans.
I think it's a great idea - listened to RH this morning - You messaged the show Love the idea of the Hockney Gallery too. The Marina has to be the jewel in the crown. They also need to sort out the A63 that dissects the fruit market and marina from the rest of the city. They need to desperately make this happen, it would make Hull a destination rather than somewhere you pass through. Some good stuff - realising it and making it happen is a different proposition.
I used to work for one of the big US cruise lines and loved it. I reckon i might have a crack at working on this if it happens. Strangely when i came back to the UK i applied to P&O for a supervisory job at the ferry terminal and was told i was over qualified and got turned down.
The idea was always to create a 'beacon' on the bullnose too. A Hull version of Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower. The hotel, offices etc were all meant to be built on the land know as Humber Quays phase 2 and 3. Spencer's bought the 'Phase 2' land after Yorkshire Forward had to sell it off and the council have just turned down planning application from Spencers to build townhouses on the site, I wonder if they're trying to push ahead with the terminal plans to tempt Spencers into building something other than housing?
Comes with roof top tree! The building is probably beyond economical repair. It would make a great boutique hotel though.

I don't think it's beyond economical repair, it's just cheaper to build something new that it would be to renovate and it's difficult to get a boutique hotel chain involved, when you're sited between a car park and the back of a BHS.
Agree. Heard the new owner of the Portland Hotel is turning it into student accommodation, so that's one less hotel about, despite demand for hotels in the area. How the Gilson Hotel stays open baffles me though.
I suppose being situated next door to a building owned by Manor Properties doesn't help either, you know full well that you'll have decaying building next to you till it falls down itself.
I actually had to google the Gilson to see which hotel it was and while looking, I noticed it was ranked 18th of 19 hotels in Hull, what the **** came 19th?
What Hull also needs is an indoor music venue....the closest is Sheffield for a major one for acts such as One Direction etc which are what people are wanting to see. It would bring in media, events and tourists who may make a day of it if they're going to see a concert, i often do this when going to Sheffield/Manchester for a music concert
Agree, we are twinned with Rotterdam yet the OB cancelled a proposed friendly with Feyenoord, loads of Dutch supporters are interested in coming over to watch Hull City, it should be encouraged far more.
I've just checked the worst ranked and it's The Anry Hotel, off Springbank. Never heard of it. The Campanile didn't even manage a mention, probably because nobody actually stays there more than an hour.
One "****ing" Direction, the venues plans wouldn't be finished before everyone had forgotten those talentless twats.
You get the idea though, big name acts who people want to see, right here in Hull, people would travel from all around the region and across the bridge to see it, plus those who couldnt get tickets anywhere else so chose Hull. Hull Arena simply isn't big enough and the KC is outdoors and can't hold events like that whenever needed
