Unfortunately big contracts are put in place to command a bigger selling fee, the contracts themselves mean nothing as if a club wants to sell it will, and if a player wants to leave then one way or another, he will go.

I'll second that, he'll be a hard act to follow. Hope he'll stay and end his career with us.

No way Colo leaves his 80k or so weekly wages to go back to Argentina, at 31 or so? He has at least 2-3 more years at the top levels before he makes a return back to Argentina. He would regret it if he went back now

    Colo concern

Unconfirmed comments from Osvaldo Coloccini - father of United's Fabricio and youth team director at Argentinean side San Lorenzo - made to a TV station in Argentina and reported on the Goal website:

"Fabricio wants to play for San Lorenzo and he is trying his best to find an elegant way to leave Newcastle. We don't know what Newcastle will come up with, but Fabricio is trying to rescind his contract because he wants to be back at San Lorenzo.

"His contract is very good and that could complicate things in an attempt for him to leave Newcastle."

Colo's current deal at SJP runs to 2016 but the link with Buenos Aires-based San Lorenzo first surfaced last month in a number of English newspapers, along with quotes from the club president to a local radio station:

"We know he is a fan and wants to return, so there could be a possibility. It's not impossible, but of course the only thing that can accelerate the situation is Fabricio's intentions."

I expect it started life as a comment by Colo or someone close to him along the lines of "Of course I still have a soft spot for San Lorenzon and it would be nice to play for them someday" andmorphed from there

Except for the spelling. Fancy putting two 'l's in our Club captains name.

    Coloccini.

Hopefully not but it would certainly explain his woeful form???

Still I'd say end of the season at the earliest given our situation.

    Yes.

And the man just bought a house in Jesmond, for heaven's sake. Pretty strange for someone who he is planning to leave the country.

Colo has said in the past that when his contract was up he would stay in England/Europe as he doesn't think Argentina is safe for his kids.

And his wife has just set up that massage clinic or whatever it is!

Even if he is considering this strange move (which I can't believe), surely it's not his father's place to be blabbing this to the media.

As the San Lorenzo boss wants Colo, and Osvaldo works for San Lorenzo, do you think pressure is being applied? Perhaps Osvaldo needs to convince the club that he is backing Colo's move home (thus covering his own butt) while simultaneously explaining how "difficult" it would be for Colo to leave Newcastle right now.

And if I'm wrong and Colo is going, I will no longer believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny. Naive newbie that I am, I will know never to believe a single thing that a football player says as my football innocence will have been destroyed. I will trust no-one.

    But I KNOW I'm not wrong. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

While looking for that pic, I saw this one again. One of my favourites. KK's reactions is quality. Mort's, Ashleys, Vetere, Jimenez and the rest of the support seemed to enjoy it too.
