By the end of the Jan window all of the 25 man squad could be back with us plus Ward who is already surplus to requirements. To buy we would have to sell and surely who and what we buy will depend on who we sell. We can only sell players other Clubs want and it is not very easy to just ' get rid of ' in such a short period of time. Jan is the time of over priced panic buys and in my humble opinion we need not involved at all unless somebody makes an over priced panic buy offer for one of our players in which case we might need a replacement. Unless one of them is sold then I feel that Holt, Morison, Kane and Jackson will be adequate to see us through to the end of the season at which time an almighty overhaul of the complete squad will be made.
I think 1950 is talking about the 25 man squad, its full and so reallisticly we would need to flog some of the fringe players to improve upon the first XI etc
this isn't technically true though - we don't have to pick certain fringe players in our 25 man squad. we can then loan them out after the transfer window has shut. we don't need to name, say lappin, in the squad - he can be left out, like ward was, so there really is no need to sell before we buy. it would be helpful to get one or two off the wage bill, don't get me wrong, but not essential.
oh, and another (cracking) player to add to the list of rumours: will buckley! would offer good competition to pilks...
I would be pleased with this. Pilks is great but he does struggle with consistency and a bit of competition would be good for him.
marco Rojas.... said he wants to stay at Melbourne Victory until the end of the current A-league season, but watching him on TV recently he has pace and can finish superbly... yes it's the A-league so not the highest standard, but worth a punt i would say!
The 25 is full, but as supers says this includes Lappin and Chris Martin both of whom are on loan so really we have 23.
Saw his wonder goal last week (well worth a youtube) but haven't heard much else about him tho. Perhaps we need some scouting activity downunder.
Just ask Ian Crook though he is no longer in charge of Sydney he is still involved in football at Sydney, who's main rivals are Melbourne Victory.... who if he suggested to an old team mate over the phone to have a look at Rojas both parties could gain
Why do people still keep going on about and worrying about the 25 man squad rule? There are players within it who are never going to play for us this year (Martin, Ayala, Lappin etc) and more importantly our management aren't stupid and know what they are doing. I find it annoying that certain posters on here seem obsessed with the problems the 25 man squad may cause when it really, really is not an issue at all
