    Where did you hear that?

He's a steely midfielder who can't shoot for peanuts - but we would miss him if the rumour is true. To be honest, I'm not sure why he would want to swap ends of the table, and then be labelled as another player from here who failed after joining you. <whistle>

Yes and has been a key part of the team in a defensive role.

    Be disappionted to lose him.

He has missed three games all season, and started all but two of the games he did play. The fact that he missed New Year's Day seems to be what started this rumour, but his place in our team seems as safe as houses. Would be extremely surprised to see a player we want to keep go to a non-Premier League team (with the possible exception of Cardiff, due to Malky Mackay's desire to only field ex-Watford players).

He's not fat and he's a decent player.

He's not the sort of signing that'd interest you lot <ok>

Past experience says that they are all rubbish - I'm scratching my head trying to think of the last transfer rumour that actually turned out to be true. Even since the Pozzo takeover, the club have played their cards close to the chest when it comes to transfers.

true true...i can't imagine Hogg would want to go anywhere...but i read an article today from a Udinese supporter..i'll try and find it...sounding a little disillusioned about the Pozzo transfer policy...

Well, if the Pozzo men think Hogg is now at his peak transfer value, and someone is willing to buy his contract, then they will sell him. That is their business plan. His peak value could be about £500K.

Hell No!!!!!! If this happens I will be fuming! He has been a rock in the center for us this season and last. There are shocking (imo) players sitting around doing sweet FA, if we need money ship them out. But dont rip out the heart of the squad.

Dan, I think that you had better get used to the new system. Players are the main product for the club. True a successful side will bring the crowds in but that will necer average much more than 20 000 even if we become a sucessful EPL team. That won't pay for very much. The Pozzo model is to bring players in, add value and sell them on. Will this business model an attempt is made to calculate the future value of a player against the cost of getting him to reach that value. The point at which the cost of any increased value is equal to or greater than that value, the player will be moved on.

Of course the calculation is not quite that simple. What must also be taken into account is the loss of revenue if the team performs less well, and the cost of a replacement.

To put it more simply, the Pozzos will sell a player if they think that it will improve the financial position of the club. There is no sentimentality.

So for Hogg, if they believe the money they can get for him now is greater than what they can get for him in the future (after his wages earned between now and when he is sold, have been subtracted) they wil sell.

Absolutely spot on NZ, that is the Pozzo model. So we should be prepared to accept to lose players very quickly, particulary if they start to appear on the TV and the press. But for me, if this model does hold true in the short term, then we have much more risk in losing Deeney and Vydra. Will be an interesting transfer window.

I think... or is it ... hope... they will hold fire to the summer with our good players... as the financial gain of promotion would be greater..... gingers crossed ... erm I think I mean fingers crossed ;)

I think the Pozzo's model may have a subtle difference. Yes, it's their policy to aquire promising players, develope them and then sell for a profit. But I don't think profit is what makes them tick. It provides the funds to take the team to a higher status. Their immediate goal is to be promoted to the PL, where the increase in revenue will far outweigh any short term profit to be made on the sales of players who can help the club achieve promotion. But still move on those players who are not good enough to achieve this goal.

As for Hogg's personal perspective. He signed a three year contract in summer 2011. With the stated aims of the club to achieve promotion by the end of next season and the resources they have at their disposal, this would seem to be his best chance of playing in the Prem ( and prem wages ) unless interest from better clubs than Birmingham or Ipswich came along. In two years time his contract will be finished so his negotiating position in Jan 2014 will be very good given he is still an integral part of the team.
