Sorry Billy, I was trying to look at owner logic. I personally don't want Reina to go as I think a dip in form isn't permanent unless its coupled with unhappiness at being here from the player. As far as we know, Reina has not expressed that. While I agree that we shouldn't skimp on wages (much like my point about being too conservative on transfer fees merely in case it doesn't work) I also think it needs balanced with what you are actually continuing to pay for. As Bozz stated, those that left, despite previous contributions and maybe being cold here but were no longer worth what it took to continue paying them. Collectively they could continue to provide results but I would suggest not much more than all these youngsters have (collectively) at a fraction of the price. Obviously you don't just get rid of all based on cost cutting, you keep class & experience within the club: Reina, Carragher, Gerrard etc. they all justify their pay. Although I suspect Carra will be on coaches wages next year. I think that after Cole that should pretty much be it. Replacements should only be "upgrades" from now on.
15:38 GMT: The Daily Mail are reporting that Liverpool striker Adam Morgan has been allowed to join Rotherham United on loan following the arrival of Daniel Sturridge at Anfield.
I understood your point was a general one Frank I meant mine to be a response to the general chatter rather just in reply to your post. For me it's a false economy selling players like Reina to "save on wages". When you see what we pay in bloody agents fees to sign replacements it pretty much takes the wage argument out of the equation.
See Juve are apparently in talks to sign Llorente at the end of the season on a free. Surely it would be worth having a look at that, or maybe offering a couple of million to try and get him in this window. At 27 will be in his prime and he's tall and powerful, also pretty decent on the ground so would offer a good different option. Not sure what the wages will be but can't think he'll be on fortunes at Bilbao?
Morgan's loan to Rotherham United has been confirmed by the club. Youth loan until the 9th of February. Should be a good chance to get some first-team experience in a competitive league. Left to join up with Airbus UK Broughton of the Welsh Premier League until the end of the season. Had a few injury problems last season so a chance to get regular minutes will be good for him. I don't think we should go for any other players this window. Ince is just unnecessary, Borini would be fit by the end of Jan and he should be competing with Sterling, and it's highly unlikely downing would be leaving this window, so he could be competing with Sturridge. Rather than bringing in sqaud players this window we could wait till summer and spend big on players that would improve the squad. Isco is player i would love to see here. He is an incredible talent but has a release clause of only 17 million, which infact is a bargain. He plays as an AMC and BR suggested it is a positions he want's to improve in the summer. And miraculously if we did manage to finish in top 4, we could have a dig at Lewandowski, he would be on his final year of his contract and could cost less than 17mill...Well at least it feels good just thinking about it eh
I think a number 10 is a more important priority than a wing forward, still think Ince will sign an I also still think Gameiro will sign too.But I think number 10 woul be better Once Borini is fit, we have 3 guys who can play thru the midle ,an we have about 6 options for the wider positions. Get a number 10 BR
