It looks like it will be between him and RVP they are the 2 stand out players so far, I don't think it should be judged on anything but footballing ability.
No. The good things that a player does on the pitch should be balanced by any bad like behaviour, diving, fouls etc ON the pitch. Extreme example: The player scores 40 goals (Positive). Sent off three times: one for cheating (definite diving in penalty area x2), second for headbutting a player, thrid for breaking a player's leg with a two footed lunge (Negative). So do we still ignore the negative and still focus on "football ability"?
I would agree with the more extreme behaviour but the diving thing is getting blown out of all propotion, loads of players do it or have done it. I've really lost interest in the subject.
It is between 4 players IMO RVP, Mata, Suarez and Bale. RVP is leading the way so far though, and if he carrys on his current form he should win it
It also regularly counts against plenty of players when it comes to awards. I remember a concerted campaign by English fans to stop Ronaldo winning Young Player at the 2006 WC after his diving and the winking incident, and FIFA awarding it to Podolski after saying they wanted "decent behaviour". Regardless, it's too early to tell at this point - a lot will depend on what happens for the rest of the season. To be fair to Suarez he has started cutting out the diving and playacting, so if he keeps scoring at the rate he is doing he is likely to be there or thereabouts come May.
I agree with that list, although Michu could be an outside bet to be in the running if he continues he current form.
Although I wouldn't expect the Footballer of the year to be a saint (in which case many wouldn't have come near it...), I still think that giving to Suarez would be a step too far. The FOTY should be a premiership footballer who has set an example through his performances. There is far too much negative connotation with Suarez, and I cannot believe that either his peers (FPOTY) or writers (FWPOTY) would go for him when they have others who have done as well or better: RVP, Bale, Mata. Suarez stands out because he is the only decent player in a very poor side.
Just saw Martin Samuel's recent piece on FOTY and what did I see halfway down the questions? "If there is a black breakaway players' union in response to this, would Suarez, who is one quarter black, not be able to join; or would you have to be 100 per cent black? Would it exclude Rio Ferdinand as he's only 50 per cent black? And isn't the idea of forming an exclusive union based on the lines of race in response to another player winning an award based on ability, racist? Donga, York" Practically wet myself
That ******ed scouser even bores his fellow fans. They give a heavy sigh whenever he posts. Because he only posts about the rac1st shi**. It does not seem to matter that he cannot convince a single individual not even amongst the scousers who are getting totally bored of him.
