Seriously, why would Lambert want to go to West Ham? The only circumstances in which that is a possibility is if we get relegated, and that's not going to happen, partly because of Rickie. No disrespect mate, but who the **** are West Ham, really?

You don't know any of that for sure though do you? He might be tempted by more wages.

I can't see it this month but as you say, in the Summer it might - Particularly if you go down, which, although you say "wont happen", is still very possible.

We are not talking about Van Persie or Aguero here. If we were then I could understand the "why would he go there" comments. This is Rickie Lambert, who is not world class, but a decent striker in his thirties and by no means "too good" for a club of our stature.

I won't bother answering your last disrespectful comment.

I've spent my whole life watching Saints players get lured away to other clubs. I know you've seen the same at West Ham. When those players went to Man Utd, Arsenal, or Liverpool, fair enough. But when the likes of Alan Shearer and Tim Flowers go to Blackburn - Blackburn, ffs - it makes you want to despair.

Those days, I believe, are over for the time being. Our chairman even fought to keep Chamberlain from going to Arsenal, but the lad had made up his mind and couldn't be dissuaded. So the idea that "Southampton's goal machine" is off to West Ham makes no sense.

Sorry if I disrespected your club. I like small but ambitious family clubs with ideas above their station. I support one.

Of course there is something in it. Big Sam is panicking about the slide and sees us as a team who can climb the league, so he wants to try and unsettle or striker.

I don't think Rickie will be the same player next season.

Blackburn did win the league you know!

Other than that, I agree completely. There's just no way Lambert is leaving. West Ham's bid could best be described as 'frivolous'.

    West Ham need a striker.

I doubt very much we are focusing all our efforts on Lambert but a bid for him may be included in a scatter gun approach.

There is definite interest but I doubt we will make a serious offer until the summer.

If we go down then who knows what will happen , although I dont think that we will . But while we are in the prem I cant see any reason at all for him going to west ham ,

    1) I respect all clubs in the premier league but my personal opinion is that West ham is not a step up from Saints in any shape or form
    2) Saints are one of the richest clubs in English football but are run properally as a buisness by a banker so firstly we can afford wages to match west ham if we want/needed too and secondly Lambert I would believe is one of the rare players out there that I really cant see being money orientated .
    3) Lambert openly talks about his debt to saints for spotting his potential and making him the player he is , not only does he say he loves the area and his family are settled , he has very recently stated that he wants to end his career at Southampton .

as i say there isnt one fan of any team that can say what will or wont happen but I cant see it happening at all but I have been wrong in the past before .

I think you gave a fair, unbiased assessment of the situation and you may well be right.

All I will say, is that he might, possibly be tempted by a big payrise because he probably a hasn't earned as much money in his career as he could have.

You might be more cash rich than us, but our chairmen have different approaches so we may be willing to offer more than you due to your strict pay structure.

I would like Lambert at West Ham but I'm not too fussed. He is a good striker and seems a good guy and if he does want to be loyal to you then fair play to him.

If you were to go down though, I think he would want out.

Rickie will follow the example of his good friend SKD and reject the Hammers...it's not ALL about money, (assuming that West Ham could offer him more).

I see this a lot on here. Did Kelvin Davis actually reject West Ham for Southampton?

And if so, is it not just that you offered him first team football and we offered him a place on the bench behind Rob Green?

I know it's a bit off topic but I genuinely don't remember and was just wondering.

Well he was certainly offered Premier League wages as opposed to League One wages and any Keeper worth his salt would back himself to fight for the first team shirt.

How is it possible to write nearly 100 posts about something that will never ever happen?

Some of you guys must have a shed load of free time on your hands.

He was jumping from a sinking ship at the time but when Liebherr took over he came back from talks with West Ham and signed a new contract with us instead.

Fair to say he was choosing between big money to sit on the bench and a more modest salary to be a big part of the Saints renaissance (he was made club captain), so it's not hugely surprising he chose us, though many others have taken the easy life, but yeah it's essentially true that he rejected West Ham to stay with us.

Was gonna say the same. Going to Blackburn then was akin to going to Manchester City now. Wasn't too big a gamble at all.
