    My opinion too.

I don't hate him like some here.

    But I'm glad he's gone.

One in and one out is good business.

I just hope cole is not getting that 3million pay off that was rumoured. I hope he's going to west ham on a free and they will pay him his wages.

DOwning can heopefully go and we can bring another player in.

I hope his West Ham medical is no more strenuous than tying up his shoe laces.. otherwise he could have trouble passing it!

Hes DEFO gettin a pay off, but it will save LFC money in the long term ,as we are only payin £3m on the remaining £7m of his 18 month contract, his wages at West Ham will make up the short fall.If we hadnt give him the pay off, he wouldnt be leaving

The moral of the story = THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "FREE" TRANSFER. Good luck Joe with your plans for the future.

Er, there are, you know. Craig Bellamy anyone? Robbie Fowler? Back a bit further - Markus Babbel...

If we want a wide player, Ricardo Quaresma is available on a free. Might have an attitude problem but would accept a wage packet of ~£2.5mil per year. Is 29 so wouldn't meet the usual FSG criteria, but would provide relief for Sterling in the short term, and a replacement for Downing, should we offload him to Boro...

West Ham have completed the signing of Joe Cole from Liverpool, says talkSPORT.

They claim Cole, 31, has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract at Upton Park, on around £30,000 a-week, with Liverpool paying him £50,000 a week for the remaining 18-months of his deal at Anfield.

I'm glad he has gone but I hate the fact next season he could score against us in a mid-week game and then pick up £50,000 from us on the Friday for the privilidge to do so. Football is a strange world

Nearer £4m than £3m then as a pay-off. Wonder if that's a lump sum for tax purposes, or he still is physically on the payroll for 18 months? Again it has to be said, there is no such thing as a 'free' transfer.

So we are SAVING £40k a week on is 90k wages, sounds like the right move to me

  19. I'll wait for it to be confirmed.

However, I will add that surely if we were to pay £50k pw towards his salary we wouldn't actually pay it each week? Surely we would just give a lump sum of £3.9m to either West Ham or Joe Cole? (based purely on the figures provided above)

I imagine from a legal (and tax) perspective, Liverpool would continue to pay him his wage monthly. Don't forget Liverpool will still be responsible for NI on the wages they pay.

However, from an accounting point of view the club would provide for the whole amount this month (i.e. they would recognise a lump sum loss in their accounts).
