He was named in their squad for ACoN but has been dropped because he never returned any calls from the Nigerian FA about it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20888335 Hopefully someone else replaces him, but I guess that's Aluko back in the reckoning for the time being.
Surely someone like Odemwingie would be more likely to replace Ameobi. Unless of course they've seen Aluko play.
It's the "A decision on the next move will be made at the appropriate time." bit, makes it sound like they're considering bringing a replacement in. They could of course just be considering imposing the 5 day rule so that Ameobi can't play for his club during the tournament, since he's just ignored them where ****tu sent them a letter asking to be left out.
The provisional squad that included Ameobi had 32 in it - they were ready for withdrawals/absentees... http://allafrica.com/stories/201212220256.html
Football in England really should have a winter break , it would help in so may ways not to mention lessen the blow the ACoN has on our fixtures.
When I first read the title of this thread I was thinking about it from a different angle. I thought last night that the little "tease" of Blunderside's might be Sami Ameobi on loan as he has withdrawn from international duty. Bit disappointed now!
They still have to cut the squad down, so they may not call anyone else in, but if they do, if suspect Peter Odemwingie and Obefemi Martons will both be ahead of Aluko.
Sammy Ameobi would probably be a good replacement. They wouldn't even have to change the shirts they printed.
