Why can't we just forget Adrian, who's like David Villa, and just get David Villa? 16 million may be a lot for a 31 year old, but it's David f*ing Villa. You find me a deadlier striker for 16 million.
Taking wages into account, he will be. Ba most likely wanted 90-100k, Lopez will be on 60k, so we will end up saving money by the end of the deal in Lopez VS Ba. Look, nobody signs Lopez over Ba from a footballing perspective, sorry, especially when your looking for a world class striker for the EPL.
16 million for Villa is a great deal, I don't get why people obsess with him being 31, this is 2013, strikers come into their peaks now from 28-33, it's not like 2002-2006 when 28-30 year olds were not really wanted. We can get a good 2-3 years out of Villa.
Ba is not world class, either. Also his knee is always going to be a concern and with our luck, you just know what will happen. Ba would have been good, but problem is he is too similar to Giroud. I always said we should go for Stevan Jovetic, this guy is going to be one of the best, and I do not feel he is out of our reach compared to the likes of Cavani,Falcao and co.
He is coming back from a leg break, plus with his age, you can understand why we would be reluctant to pay that much for him.
Demba Ba is quality, just look at his stats in the EPL. Arsenal want a striker who can get the job done in the EPL, he does that, and his stats say so. If Demba Ba isn't world class? What does that make Lopez, who's unproven in England, and doesn't even have Ba's stats in Spain??????
Atletico Madrid have already signed a replacement for Adrian, just found it out. Looks like we may be getting him.
David Villa is a risk at £16m plus his wages would be up near the £90k mark at least. That said, I'd love to see him at Arsenal
I'd take the risk on Villa! It's worth it for a player who was considered the best in the world for his position only a year or two ago! Even if he didn't manage to have the effect we would hope for he would sell plenty of shirts! I think he'd do well in the EPL though. Of all the strikers we have been linked with he is the one i would want the most.
Adrian is mediocre. David Villa could be a stroke of genius but it's unlikley Barca will let him leave. Personally I would like Arsene to rekindle his interest in Benzema. I think Stylistically he's perfect for Arsenal.
Adrian Lopez is going to bring nothing for Arsenal, he's not better than Podolski, and I don't even think he's better than Gervinho. He certainly isn't what Arsenal need to make the next step forward in being able to challenge and win things. I hope we don't sign him.
I think you throw around the words "world class" too easily. Neither of them are world class. However, Ba is one of the best strikers in the Premier League. Ever since he moved to West Ham he was banging in goals consistently, and he's continued that at Newcastle. They're not all easy goals either, this guy is no Darren Bent, Ba has real quality.
Only problem with Ba is that he is used to playing on the break with Newcastle. Playing for Arsenal he will be coming up against a static 8 man defence. He is going to need a completely different skill set. If you think he will score as many goals for Arsenal as he does for Newcastle, then I think you are being very optimistic.
