wait until i have seen him play in a red short before deciding. £12 mill for a young lad who has a point to prove isn't really breaking the bank though, considering he will have the over inflated British price tag added anyway, could be buy of the season, but if he turns out crap certainly wont be bad buy of the season, and players do need time at a new club.
Like any player, the price tag doesn't matter unless he doesn't perform. That's the gamble a manager or now our "transfer committee" take. While obviously being more conservative with a limited budget you can't buy players via a price tag based on the worst case scenario of him being a failure otherwise what's a manager & scouts expertise actually for? We could just buy 10 £5M players a season and hope a third of them came good.
If he gets as many in 5 months as Fletcher has he'll be doing ok although you could also say he should get 6 times as many as Michu for £12 mill...and we'd all be happy with that Why aren't you on the Fantasy thread this morning anyway Hoffmeister? You'll be looking over your shoulder more than Clint Hill marking Suarez after yesterdays scores.
That transfer policy would actually be more fruitful than the "moneyball method" Plus we'd have a fookin massive squad. Frank I think you're on to something. DF for DoF maybe?
1. you find a suarez.... if you find one and can pay 23mil fine... we bought torres for the same and was worth it... everyone can see a total bargain like say RVP. they are still few and far between. 2. in case you guys fail to notice but we have not had enough strikers for more than 5 years. if you want to wait to find another suarez you'll be waiting. Utd have hernandez, welbeck and RVP and rooney.... if sturridge is as good as welbeck, and i think he is... then 12mil is cheap. 3. We'll have sterling, borini (still an italian international) suarez and sturridge. better than we had. 4. we still need another and see the back of downing and cole.. we'll just have enough not extras with this.
You'd have been laughed at by Chelsea if you'd have bid £12M for him after his loan spell at Bolton finished. That's the only time in his career that he was an automatic first pick & he proved what he could do during that spell. To me he's a great signing for you lot, as he can play out wide or through the middle, the only question mark over him is his massive ego, but if he arrives with the right attitude & you play him week in, week out, he'll do the business for you imo.
can everyone relax about michu.... one lucky deal or half a season doesn't make a 20mil player! danny graham did well last year for the swans... hardly setting the world alight... what about kevin phillips... one good year and made a career of moves o nthe back of it.. the thing is saying x player cost ten times that guy did is a pure falacy. Papis cisse is another great example... michu might score phook all next season for all we know. torres... RVP... suarez... rooney.... they are all worth every penny of their initial fees (torres at 50mil was silly) as their clubs knew they'd be successes year in year out. I can say for sure that if i offered you michu for 2mil or rvp for 24mil last july there's only one player anyone would pick... and frnakly right now there's still only one player most would pick.
Hilarious! which is why the day that deal happened a lot of people were not happy myself included.... and why comolli and dalglish got sacked I think. i never mentioned carroll so i can sit back and bask in the knowledge that i'm right. if you were offered michu for 2mil or RVP for 24 you'd pick RVP everytime
