    Bryan Robson comes home.

70’s and 80’s Sunderland goal scoring hero Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson is to come back to his home town club, to replace Ricky Sbragia as Chief Scout.

Robson was one of the best strikers around in his day, and had three different stints at then Roker Park his last was as a 38 year old, before winding his career down moving to Carlisle United where he was a player coach then on to Gateshead.

My problem witht this appointment, is although pop was a great footballer, and good for SAFC, what are his scouting credentials? or is this another jobs for the boys routine. we need a good scout, but please keep him/her out of south america. do scouts get sacked for advising on duffers? If not where do we sign up, and whats the pension plan like?

He is well known in the game. Is the football in Hollend as bad as the stuff I have seen on ESPN?

don't know about him as scout, but we can't judge till he's had a try.

as for s. americans, well guess we're just unlucky there, as other teams seems to uncover some real gems, just look at man u this season.

trouble with taking americans, africans and asians, is the scout doesn't get to see them enough, playing enogh games.

Pretty much, not often you get a cracker, prefer to watch the local teams, free entry cheap alcohol etc, great atmosphere, but tv football lets me down more often than not, would rather watch a german channel.

He was most recently at Chelsea, however their Scouting Network has been disbanded kind of as Frank Arnesen leaves.

Pop was very badly treated by Peter Reid IIRC when he was sacked from running the Academy a number of years back. He is well known to the club and to Quinny in particular I'd think.

He could double up and teach some of our players how to kick the ball in the back of the net!

Bryan 'Pop' Robson, despite having history with sunderland, is and always will be a Geordie -
he is a Newcastle supporter and always has been. His 'professionalism' may mean that he
will do his best for us but his heart is with the mags.

You really are making yourself look stupid here son: Pop Robson was born and bred just a stones throw from Roker Park in Sunderland, and is, and always has been a Sunderland supporter. He just so happened to make the grave error of signing for the Skunks as a boy but then saw the error of his ways and got out of toon!
