The Mercury says that, Chris Wood is the perfect tonic for Leicester City's promotion push, said manager Nigel Pearson.

The £2 million striker made an impressive debut against Huddersfield Town yesterday.

Wood scored twice in the opening 24 minutes as City recorded an impressive 6-1 victory over Simon Grayson's side at the King Power Stadium.

City had signed Wood on an emergency loan so he could make his debut. He will complete his permanent move from West Bromwich Albion today.

Pearson said he was delighted to have convinced the 21-year-old that his ambitions can be served at City.

"Chris has made a commitment to play for us, which I am really pleased with," he said.

"He is an ambitious lad and we are ambitious ourselves. He gives us a real tonic in what is a very important part of the season now.

"He played a very positive part in a very good team performance.

"His attributes fit the bill. He is a team player who works exceptionally hard, he shows a lot of football intelligence as well and it is very pleasing for him to get off to the start he has."

Wood struck up an instant understanding with strike partner David Nugent but Pearson feels the New Zealand international will compliment any of his strikers.

"They did look good as a partnership but I think we have some good forwards," he said. "There is a lot of potential here with Jamie Vardy, Martyn Waghorn and Marko Futacs, who has done well for us when he has come on as a substitute.

"We have got a few different options and the competition is going to be very good moving forward.

"On top of that, the quality we have in wide areas is going to be important in terms of supply for those players."

Pearson was unhappy with the second-half tackle which ended with Ben Marshall limping off, but he said the winger had escaped serious injury.

"I thought it was a very dangerous tackle," he said.

"Fortunately, he is okay but I am very surprised the officials missed it. He is all right and he is walking around, so it was a near miss for him."

Teenage defender Michael Keane, who is on loan from Manchester United, played the entire 90 minutes and Pearson said they would try to extend his stay with City.

Keane and team-mate Jesse Lingard's loans expire today.

"His loan will finish but we will have a chat with Manchester United to see what their thoughts are about that," he said. "He played very well today."

Lets not get too carried away... its either feast or famine with most of our fans... with the resourses at our disposal some questions would need to be asked if we were not in the shakeup at the end of the season..<ok>

Well, I did tell you all that N P would add to your squad and you would be even Better as the season went on...

    Believe..

Both our clubs are just going to get better.. While those around us crack up sooner or later.

We will still have the odd slip up... But not as many as everyone else...

We are BOTH going up going up going up

Genuine Q here and not a WUM, but why are you going to get better? You are second in the league.

The league is so close this season you can only judge how your season will pan out with the last 5 games to go! We need a good run of points over the next 5 games to get near the autos for me. Chris woods looks like our much needed boost!

Hull I think will do well, think we still potentially could overtake you into 2nd, but I'm not that optimistic. We've usually done well in January in recent seasons, so we're at a pivotal moment now. You've done very well to get Meyler, I'd have taken him at City in an instant!

Think some managers have a part of their head in the transfer market over January and aren't totally concentrating on the games.

Pearson has already done our big January move imo, and so wont be worried about needing certain players.

The team hes assembled should be good enough now to (hopefully) close the gap on the top 2.

Agreed, I'd love to see a centre half combination of Morgan and Faye, so hard they'd rip a hole in the space-time continuation!

Too big african-built CBs doesnt work as well i feel, i think some a smaller, more agile technical Cb next to one of that style of CB is a more efficent type of combination which compliments each other.

It's almost like the striking partnership in an ideal 4-4-2 I think? Have one mighty brute and then another who's a bit more agile who can pick up the balls which bounce off him, for want of a more technical term :)

We're going to get better by adding a much needed striker, we're getting good results without scoring enough goals, we really should have twice as good a goal difference as we have currently. It seems an approach for Danny Graham has been knocked back and Bruce has made it clear that his number one target is now Fraizer Campbell.

Campbells a risk with his injury past. If you shift McLean you should go for at least 2 strikers

Campbell's been back for a year now, plenty of players have come back from the same sort of injuries he had, I don't see it as a major issue, though I'd be happy to see us bring in two strikers all the same.
